Check out www.apple.com for the new spec bumped iMacs, Mac minis, and Mac Pro.
So tempted to upgrade my old Dual G5 2.0Ghz to an 8 core Mac Pro |

I was rather underwhelmed by the new MacPro line up, given the fact that eSata is still not on board, USB3 well may be a bit early, but I seriously would have expected the 32Gig limitation to at least double to 64 Gig with snow leo knocking on the door sooner than later.
I would be astonished if this line up will clearly outperform the current xeon 8 cores, I rather think this will be in the 15% region depending on the application of course.
Admitted, I was a bit nervous whether my realitively new MacPro (August 08 ) would see only the back lights of the new ones, but I don't think so anymore.
This is a good thing, software now runs after hardware in performance, so a maschine bought today more than likely will do you for longer than was the case in the past decade where hardware ran after software.
May be a good time to snap up a end of line MacPro and rather max it out with Ram instead of paying top notch prices for the latest nelahem. Just a thought.... |

The new four core single die Xeon with hyperthreading, is definitely a speed bump over the older Xeon. Having two of them in one machine should make for a massively fast machine

Thanks for posting this Daz! I've been waiting and waiting for the announcement but wouldn't have seen it so soon if you didn't post it. You really should get one of these if you're going to run Omnisphere.
A note about Omni... it's not just about the ram or processor speed, it's also about the number of cores it can distribute the load to. Opening multiple instances of Omni allows it to use the multi cores.
I'm so getting one of these. This G5 dual 2.5 GHz was a good one but it's time to go now ...
Cheers,
Susan |

Hey Daz,
Well I just got my new MacBook Pro last month. I was hoping for the 17" but it wasn't released here yet. I got the 15" 2.4. Upgraded RAM and Hard Disk. Works nicely... Still hoping to upgrade to a 17" hopefully later.
I'm impressed with the updates and can't wait for snow leopard to come out. _________________ Carol
