I disagree.
The EX is as capable a synth as you would ever need for most types of music.
This comes from someone who owned an ES, and sold it.
Not saying the ES is crap, no way, but I just don't see this as clear cut as you do.
The EX is an excellent synth.
I've done Carribean and Salsa music on my KARMA, and TR successfully, so it's not so much the instrument, as the composer, in my humble opinion.
Regards,

Hi

Get the EX, I play the same music as well have both somewhat, the Es will do u well on pianos, and the mega voices like acoustic guitars and drums.

The organs, pads, strings, effects, horns, quick responses, quick setups, flying through sound sets etc ...EX hands down, along with stuff i failed to mention.

So, to sum up...like Obama and Hilary, the EX and Es is a dream ticket!!!

But, if u have to have just one, the EX is the way to go. U will definitley be using that much more effectively with your kind of music guaranteed...EX sounds r fantastic...if u get a moss board, that's even more trouble.....

cheers

YES!!!
the horns on the Extreme r superior to the ES , especially if u have the "moss board" for the Extreme!

The moss board will make your horns sound realistically real with all the dynamics...

BTW, I don't have the moss board yet but hav heard them, they r awesome...

cheers

Lets not get too excited here. If you play Latin, Carribean music, EXTREME
in no way can come close to the ES, lets be realistic. Most of my musician
friends in NYC are Latin people and none of them yet has EXTREME, they are
all on MOTIF ES, thats one, secondly, the Latin/Carribean music i listen to,
only on the ES i hear similar sounds. No, the Horns on the EXTREME are not
better even with the MOSS, that Horn is not for that music, it is a very Growly
Monophonic Horn which in no way can be used for Latin music. You can achieve
the same and WAY better Horn then that with the VL Card on MOTIF ES which
can be used for Latin music, i even have a MP3 sample from my ES how a
Horn sounds on a ES with VL Card. And last:
With the ES you have WAY more possibilities then with TEX.
This doesnt mean that one is better then the other its just which one will
suit you better, they are both great synths but for Latin the ES is way to go.

If I may chime in...

I am a huge Korg fan boy. I have and love the Triton Extreme. It is a fantastic board with fantastic sounds.

Additionally I have the Yamaha MO6 which is a "lite" version (although it is quite jam packed) of the Motif ES. If I were doing any form of island type of music I turn to the Yamaha. The sounds are suited so well. The ES is more enhanced (though with a similar sound set). I would get the Yamaha.

This is coming from a Korg fan boy on Korg's forums. I would NEVER take anything away from Korg. They are magnificent. If you ever plan to do other forms of music, you might consider the Extreme.

Yo,

I don't play much latin music, and for some reason reason the emphasis is on latin music y is that may I ask?

when playing reggae, calypso, soca, dancehall, dub...the Extreme has the sounds to suit , that's my point, I USE BOTH, but hey that's my 3 cents...

some other guy might difffer slighty like some of my musicians friends back home here, but for the most part they r more musicians using Ex or triton classic more than the ES for "this type of music" and that's evident..

Don't get me wrong, the ES is sweet, I USE IT and like it, but for this music

I LOVE EXTREME!!!!

cheers
kabuchi

ps: Bluesky64, best thing is for u to try both boards yourself and see which one suits you first as a lone board...

your taste could be different, no harm done, there r both great boards

Good luck
kabuchi

get the extreme with the moss, than in the future you'll be able to add a motif es or xs rack... If you buy the motif es or xs you won't be able to buy the extreme rack in the future.

"so it's not so much the instrument, as the composer, in my humble opinion.
Regards, Stephen"

Well said. Both can do the job without a doubt. But if weak in time to apply to sound out of the box I would want the Yamaha personally as they sound great in this direction to my ear but I have spent no time with the Moss board or latin music so my opinion excludes both being a reality available. I do not play other peoples music seeking the unknown and like Korg’s structure of operation and sound creation much better so have only had one older Yamaha synth but the new ones are really nice. I have the M50 and if someone wanted to trade my Triton for the Motif in same condition (I use filtered balanced A/C so internaly no unseen damage in great shape) I would do it in a second but dread learning it and the manual and it would sit unused alot with M50 eating my time.

The Yamaha PSR-S900 arranger blows the Motif ES away for latin music. The S900 has most of the Super Articulation voices of the Tyros 2. It also has lots of latin styles out-of-the-box, making good use of the Mega voices for quality guitar sounds.

The horns and sax on ths S900 aren't merely good, they're phenomenal. The S900 is better than the Motif XS in this regard too. Only the Tyros2 and Tyros 3 are better among Yamaha's line up.

But no need to take my word for it. Play the S900 side-by-side with them to see for yourself.

I also own a Triton Extreme and a Z1 (MOSS). The Z1 reed physical model is very good too, but more for funky live articulation with the XY pad to get a wide range of expression. I think the Z1 would work better with a wind controller, but I haven't tried that personally yet.
