|

Hi all,
First post so I apologise in advance for coming in with a question that's probably quite technical.
OK, I have a DSS1 that is being a bit naughty with me. Last week I put my headphones into the beast and it went crackly.... ever since then the right side of my headphones and also the Right jack plug is dead. I have tried contact cleaner, I have even opened up the machine to see if there was anything silly happening like a loose connection or a dry solder. Nothing!!
Any idea's on how to fix the problem would be appreciated. If there are any techy types I'm open to suggestions and don't mind wielding a soldering iron. I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination but help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!! |

Hi Pauly Q,
I think i had a similar problem with my DSS1.
When I inspected the connectors, i found out that the plastic of a (switching)connector was bursted/cracked, in a such a way that the metal points that form the switch of the switching mechanism worked no more.
I could not glue the connector together again, can't remember why.
The connector in question is a very rare Japanese type, i was lucky to
find (after some searching) a similar one in an old cheaply made Sharp double cassettedeck (from the end of the eighies, (same era as the Dss1), it must have sold a lot at that time, so with some luck you'll find one on the electronic scrapheap).
After replacing the connector my Dss1 worked and still works real fine. |

Thank you for that I'd lost hope.
OK, now, being a novice at electronics which board should I be looking at inside the DSS1 and would you have a Part No or picture so I know what to look for?
Cheers, and very much appreciated. |
