My Oasys locked up for the first time ever today after installing the 1.3 update. I was auditioning some of the MOD7 patches in program mode and the controller leds started freaking out followed by a complete lock up of the system. Crying or Very sad

hello!

this morning, i downloaded the 1.3. I have updated via global mode (update software) and got an error while updating: "unable to update oasys kernel". then i booted the oasys with the cd 1.3 inside, no problem it updated with no problem, but when i restarted it to enjoy 1.3 OS , it said me to reauthorize the oasys (??!!!!???!!!). i took my 1.1 cd of reauthorisation, worked fine, reboot, then have the reauthorize again.....tried several times....again and again!! so i decided to try with a new reauthorize cd after ask it on korguser. same thing, always reauthorisinz. MY PUBLIC ID has not changed !!!

i tried to install 1.1: FATAL error on the first CD
i tried to install 1.0 fatal error on the first cd too...... the only thing i did not try is to format. called the french korg office here, and they told me to try to format and reinstall, then i will have another public ID so i 'll have to reautorize it and to get new LAC and MOD7 codes (i purchased both).

although i do copy of my projects on an external HD i'm loosing 80 sound programs i was working on and a song. yes i know i should have copy those before install 1.3, but i'm not going to back up every minute i used my oasys. bad day for me, that's life, hope format and reinstall will work and that it easy to get new codes for paid EXIs.

Confused

Hello Rc,

Got the same problem with version 1.2.3 last week !!!!!!!
Update failed many times like you !!!
I also try to restore to 1.1 and 1.0, ---> FATAL Error !!!!!!!

It's a very hard for you to have lost you are data, for myself I had chance to make backup but I understand you don't have do a backup each time you uses your OASYS Embarassed

It's a shame for this kind of gear to not have a tool that allow to boot with a CD system with utility to transfert data from HD to USB !!

DAZ, an idea to do this on OASYS ????????
It is important for RC-IA !

for the back up , it is my fault, it's clearly stipulated on the updater pdf that the first thing to do is to back up.

since, i've tried to reinstall 1.1 after formating, fatal error.

same with 1.0, i've tried twice!

i'm trying again right now Crying or Very sad

I have downloaded(1.3) update but am reluctant to load it at the moment until I have Backed up the internal Hard drive.I was tempted to just take the chance and load the Updates, but saw it as an Omen the fact I hadn't got no media to burn the Update onto, meaning I have nothing to backup the Hard drive too either,so will wait now until I have backed the files reading that warning in the Updater documents

Although it states that it really only would affect the "Factory" Files and reading your post Just confirmed my instincts to air on the side of Caution and back up first.I know I'd be a fool to not back it up now after having doubts,It's the old Murphy's law philosophy...If I don't backup,it will go wrong..

I do regular Backups of all My files almost on a Monthly basis for all my equipment,I have never got round to doing any of the Oasys since I bought it In April seeing as the Harddrive is pretty New thought it would be fine for the time being,I have had problems with Hard drive going funny but usually after a few years,so thought the Oasys data would be error free for a while yet,but this is a wake up call to do it now before I update the OS Shocked

Sorry to hear of your problem with losing your data Crying or Very sad ,but its help ram the backup message Home for me before I lost any data, just incase the Update screwed things up..

I'm sorry that you have had difficulties with the update.

This can be caused if a USB device is connected during the installation. Is it possible that you had a USB device connected?

The subsequent problems with authorization might well be caused by an incomplete install.

At this point, you should also use the boot-from-CD method for updating.

For anyone else who may encounter difficulties with the update:

1. Please do not re-format your drive. It is almost never necessary, and will almost always make things worse, causing need to re-authorize etc.

2. Please do not re-install an older version of the system after a failed install. This will generally make it more difficult to recover.

3. First, check that all USB devices are disconnected.

4. Second, try re-burning the CD. Always use verification when burning.

Best regards,

Dan

i have to format, that's what korg france told me and that's why i did it after talking to them.

what i do not undersatnd is that the format is really quick for a 40go although it says it's a FULL format. but maybe it is something completely different

now, i always have fatal error during OS restoring...... will talk to kog FR tomorrow

Dan, as I noticed on KARMALAB, I got a problem with 1.2.3 last week.
It was a migration from 1.2.2 to 1.2.3 --> Error Code 2
Korg France told me to reinstall 1.1 using restoration and got the same problem described by RC-IA --> FATAL Cannot Install Files !!
After that Korg France told me to try the restoration with formating.
Alway the same problem.

So if you boot from CD1 of a 1.1.x or 1.2.x 4 cd set, use option 4 (format disk and install software/voicing), you still get an error during the install of 1.1.x or 1.2.x?

And these CD sets have worked for you in the past? Do the surfaces of these CDs look OK? I don't need a picture, I'm just trying to narrow down the possibilities...

please dan, can you explain why it makes things more difficult. if we format the disk, it should be ready to welcome the new data. is there some interference (? ), is there some data that stay on the HD even after format?

RC-IA, it is exactlay the question i'm asking.
Normally, a perfect install could be after a fresh formatting.
This time it seems there is something else on HD that don't help the system to reinstall.
