Well, as per the manual, I learned that using the USB port turns off the MIDI Out jack, but I was triggering my 01W with that, sigh. Annoying design logic, although I can sort of understand the flow.

Make it easy on me, heh. What's the next most direct way to get the TR to be the 01W's controller? I'm using a TASCAM US-144 interface and Cubase Studio 4; the 01W is listed in the Mac's MIDI Setup; and I'm just looking to make the 01 a sound module now. If one of you has already figured it out, it'd help me get going sooner.

I have ALMOST nothing but praise for the TR; its a great instrument and adds a lot to the greater, darker depth of the 01W. Its just this inevitable One Bloody Thing, right?

Just record the midi track from TR through usb, than connect M1 through midi, and put the sequencer OUT to M1.

That would work if I was willing to deal with a kluge and double the hassle, but MIDI was created precisely for 1-to-1 hookups. This is a glaring design flaw, IMO. There's no way we should have to constantly plug and unplug ANYTHING physically or remove the live-playing factor by routing a track out after the fact. There should at least be a software switch inside the TR that allows you to send USB to the computer and MIDI to a 2nd/3rd hardware synth without having to physically reroute anything. Its not at all an unusual situation, nor an unreasonable expectation. Who the hell made USB and MIDI so incompatible?

Even if MIDI is employed and the USB port unplugged, that denies me use of any softsynths in a layered manner, as far as I can tell at this point. That's a 3-legged dog of a setup. I'll have to live with it, but frankly, if I had known this unreasonable flaw existed, I would not have bought the TR at all. It forces me to give up too much for too little gain.
