It was a tough decision for me too, i had and have TEX and i bought M3.
Few weeks later i returned my M3, just couldnt deal with it, it was nowhere
near TEX for my needs, it just couldnt make it.
Another thing was MOSS, many people would say OH YOU GOT THE RADIAS
EXB now, but no, RADIAS is not even close to what MOSS does and is meant
to do, those are just 2 diferent things, RADIAS is a killer for what is meant
to do but cannot do what MOSS does.
And for now i dont know of any T PCG going to M3.

Hi there. I thought I would ask my question in this thread. I am trying to decide if i should buy a korg m3 or korg triton extreme.

My music style is metal/hard rock/progressive rock. Think bands like Dream Theater, Threshold, Children of Bodom, Porcupine Tree, Spock's Beard, Nightwish, Bon Jovi Dimmu Borgir, etc... Dream Theater would be my favourite band... I"m looking for a keyboard that has all those weird synth sounds that prog bands use. Any prog/metal people on here who could make a reccomendation?

Also I have a slight disability with my left hand, I cannot use it much. I was planning on recording some parts individually and then adding them all together or using sequencers frequently or one touch chords etc.... Would both allow me to say play a part, record it, play over the top of it and record that? etc...

What do you reccomend?

As a programmer and knowing the EXTREME inside and out all i can say is
get the EXTREME, it is really worth the 1000$ or so less then the M3.
By the amount of money and being advertised you might get dissapointed
with the M3...and it wont give you everything the EXTREME gives.
First of all the M3 doesnt even have on third of EXTREMEs sounds, ithink
its only one quarter its ROM sounds. The only difference is the KARMA thing,
trust me nothing else, everything else is LESS.

I would like to comment shortly, Sina172, I think you should calm down a little bit, you like Oasys but it's true that Oasys is not for everyone, especially those who REALLY can't afford it, as it is a REALLY expensive synthesizer... But trust me a lot of people really want it and know what it can do, so please, if you could calm down a little bit it would help a lot of us... Smile

For the money the Extreme is Korgs best todate. I personally dont like the feel nor design of the M3. It is nice to look at though. As far as some comparing it to the Oasys, thats a joke. They are miles apart. I played the Oasys for two minutes and saw the differance. One can say, the Extreme is full of Korg ready sounds.

Its a tough call, I have both ( M3-M, Extreme 76)

I would consider many of the derogatory M3 " Internet opinions " with a grain of salt.

The strengths of the M3 far outweigh the 97% of the quibbles.

And Korg will likely build more capabilities to it.

Jerry i understand your point and you are right. What about VALUE/MONEY?
I'd rather pay 1500 and get 1000 COMBIS then pay 2700$ and get 200 COMBIS.
Even though i never liked the TRITONS as a WORKSTATION and its sounds
too, the only reason i use TRITON is strictly MOSS but still the TEX even
today has the largest library of sounds.
And missing the MOSS on the M3, thats the biggest LOSS right there.
Please dont mention RADIAS...even though you work for them i know VERY
WELL what MOSS does and what RADIAS does...please?!

Here is my take on the M3 and Extreme. I just came from Guitar Center for the third time A/B ing the two. The Extreme is just right for someone like me. I am a song writer,so I need sounds from any workstation I get more than anything else. The Extreme give me that with spades. Is there something wrong with the M3, hell no, The truth is, and I am not shame to admit, the M3 is over my head. It is for a serious performer that can take avantage of the many features. I would not do a M3 any justice at all. I would like to own one but I would be passing up what I need (Extreme) to get what I want (M3). Bottom line is. There is something for everyone. I will pick up the Extreme Monday after selling my Classic. Wink

If you're into programming then the M3 is definitely the better option. There is more scope with EDS than HI.

So does everyone use presets around here??

I think i am the last person that would use presets...do you know what
LITERALLY means NOT EVEN ONE. But the M3 doesnt give me what i want.
I dont work with western music which right away means we dont care
about PRESETS but ROM and SAMPLES...in the case of TRITONS MOSS is
the only reason most of us got TRITON.

Which one is better? Well the M3 of course. Sold my Extreme61 right after I heard the two things side by side. The M3 has a much bigger and thicker sound, it actually sounds more alive compared to the Extreme, even with the tube on. OK The Extreme has got a zillion presets but honestly, they all sound thin and plastic. Id have 3 really good sounding EP patches over 33 crap ones any day of the week. Wink
