can i connect 88 key midi board to 66 key synth?

I have a TR61. Can I connect an 88-key weighted key midi controller to this ad play a full 88 keys ?

So its cheaper to buy a TR61 and a weighted 88-key midi controller than to buy the TR88?

Maybe in price, but not in convenience. You'll have to carry around 2 boards and set up both all the time, instead of plugging in a TR88 and going. Guess it depends on how often you'd need 88 keys.

I agree - but if you look at the extra benefits you get in having two boards for separate piano & strings sounds and the possibilites of extra splits it must be worthwhile - especially for the studio player

Cool! But, question is, can separate programs and combis be assigned to the TR keyboard and the MIDI controller keyboard simultaneously?

yes they can
Just change the midi channel on the controller keyboard to match the sound you want to play in either sequencer or combi mode

you definately need two hands to do this...... Very Happy

If you play live, the benefits of having a controller are immense. There are times that I need one whole keyboard's range for one sound (i.e. piano) and use the other to split up into numerous other sounds (ear candy, sample triggers). Definately worth thinking about if the funds are there, but I would bet that Korg's 88-key action will be better than a cheap 88-key controller, so don't rule out a TR88!

Wow, that's interesting!
Especially since zones and key splits are assignable.
The TR88 may cost a small fortune more, though.
And, you will be stuck with weighted action all the way.
How are the keys on the TR61?
