Out of curiousity....

Now that Vista launched, assuming you would have the appropriate hardware to run it, given all the negative remarks about it, such as the fact that you can not do a clean install when you update from XP just for example....

Would you consider the purchase?

Personally I will not update to VISTA for many reasons. My plan is to get a MAC at some stage and run my music software on the admittedly more expensive but Windows free maschine.

Do you have a choice Smile
Eventually everything will be Vista compatible only.

I will upgrade, but not for sometime until I see that all the software I own supports Vista. Hopefully by free updates.

I don’t fancy having to buy new versions of what I’m already happy with.

For what benefit ?
Both systems are just a stable, and as fast.

Regards.

I think I'll stick with Windows XP, for now.
It has it problems, but it gets the job done probably 95 percent of the time, in my opinion.
I don't really care about software at this point.
I look for ways to speed up my machine from a hardware point of view.
I bought the Core 2 Duo and a new mobo and my machine is faster.
I've noticed that burning DVD's is faster.
But no operating system can make you download faster, or surf faster, when servers are bottlenecked.

So for now, XP will suffice.

I would think the MAC has much lesser problems with virus crap, and having seen the Mac Pro recently qith 16 Gig, the whole concept appeals more to me, operating system is the better of both at a glance....

I suppose I am tired of windows to be honest, and the whole concept and politics of vista is something I deeply dislike!!

Bill Gates is just going to give his money away.
If that's the case, why not give us a price break on this stuff.

Wow, can you say MONOPOLY?

Ditch that Bull, no way....
That's the way I feel at the moment.

500 Megabyte ~ish RAM requirement 7 Gig HD space,12.928 Handles, 568 Threads und 45 Processes, and not an inch better than Linux or OSX in my view.... and already some voices are out there warning that this STORM Trojan could attack vista as well...

Ditch that Bull, no way.... me too! Wink

No upgrade for me. I've got too much gear that wouldn't work, my Creamware system first of all.

I can't upgrade my XP until later this year, and then maybe not until a year from now, i want them to debug as much as possible and i'm worried some of my music software might not be compatible with vista

The computer I do music on (and only that) is XP, and it's working just fine.

I do everything else on Linux, have been for about two years now, and just can't imagine bothering with anything else (I mean, ALL the software - of which there is everything I'd ever really want (except for the music programs) - is free, there's no virii or spyware to speak of, it's fast, it looks as good as Windows or Mac, and it handles all my hardware (printer, digital camera, router) without difficulty. If I didn't have to have Windows for Reason\Reaktor\Live\Absynth I wouldn't bother with Windows at all.

No thanks to Vista for me! It's just another copycat of OSX ...

Besides, it's too expensive to run this OS (check out the minimum requirements to run Vista and you'll be shocked!) If you take away all the fancy Windows borders and those other animated nonsense blah blah blah, it's just like another Windows XP looked alike.

Perhaps we should wait for the OSX Leopord to come out, compare them side by side, then decide if it's worth upgrading to Vista or get a Mac instead.

ps: I do hope I didn't offend any Windows fans here... if so I sincerely apologise Wink
