I am having issues with the short decay phase of the piano samples, they decay so quickly after the initial attack. There have been plenty of threads about this.

Has anyone tried to stretch the decay of the piano samples in the HD-1 engine by using the "Pitch Stretch" in the Tone Adj panel? This stretches the whole sample of course. And it will change the timbre of the sound to a more dampened one (though some samples are pretty bright, too bright to my ears).

Am currently not at my board, otherwise I would have tried that right away.

As you mention, indeed that parameter might not be useful for what you want to achieve. In HD-1 mode, I would instead try to modify the amplitude and filter envelopes more to your taste.

Of course, the piano samples themselves will retain their character, but you could certainly improve them more to your liking. The Berlin Grand samples have the most pronounced "short decay" you mention, because Bechstein grand pianos often have this particular initial louder peak, followed by a more drastic drop in amplitude, compared to other piano manufacturers like Steinway, Bösendorfer, Fazioli, etc.

After all I might be going a different route - thinking of getting Pianoteq 8, and either use it on my ipad or sample my favourites of it into the Kronos. And yes, am aware that much of the idea behind modelling will then get lost in the Kronos. But that's then anyway only for gigging.
