I just went to look at a unit for sale locally.
I’ve been moving to iPad apps and use Studio Logic and Roland keyboards. Mostly writing and producing in my studio.
I know Korg has the triton app that would run on my .ipad. And it would run with my current midi controllers and give me all of these beautiful sounds.
That said - I was really struck with the quality and heft of this instrument. No doubt the finest quality workstation I’ve ever laid hands on.
I didn’t get a lot of time with it but definitely the keybed is high quality. I can buy this unit for a little premium over the usual 88 key midi controllers. And then I get all the sound libraries.
I don’t believe this unit is made any more? And I’m concerned about ongoing support from Korg. But clearly - it is a fine piece of gear that I would use in my studio.
I’m wondering if I should take the plunge given that its size, weight and age could be something that may not be necessary given you can simply buy the VST AUV version.
Will I regret dragging this monstrous but beautiful machine home? |

All I can say is that I own 2 Triton extreme 88's and one Extreme 61. I sold one of the 88 to make room for the KRONOS2 88.
The Triton 88 Extreme uses a very dependable keybed. I believe it is a fatar 88 weighted model TP40, made for KORG. in the 20 years I have owned it there have been NO issues with it. YEs it is heavy but a solid build that I still use today!
Just carefully preview that model. Test all buttons ,switches inputs & outputs and the touch screen. IF yours is like my TWO, it will be fine and worth the $ you paid for it. IT also has aftertouch that not all 88 controllers have.
Good Luck!
