In short, is there a way to put, copy/transform, or record Pattern Sequencer data, into a regular MIDI track on Korg Kross?

As there's no Step Recording onboard, I need to find a way to record patterns to its onboard Sequencer for further editing with Event Edit.

I know that Sequencer channel 16 is reserved to host Pattern Sequencer data but only it's sound (program). Not the MIDI data.

Please let me know if you know how to accomplish that.

Thanks in advance!

Check the Sequencer Event Edit page in the Kross Parameter Guide (page 150 in both Kross, and Kross2 Parameter Guides). Individual MIDI events (e.g. note on/off, Control Change) can be inserted, deleted, and ranges of measures can be copied and pasted to create repeating patterns. It's a bit of a pain to edit at the single MIDI event level, but it is possible.

A measure or two of a note sequence could be played on the keyboard, and recorded real time in the Sequencer, then edited to make multiple copies/repeats. The Sequencer also has a Loop function, whereby a start and end point of a Loop can be set, and that part will then be repeated.

Yes, but that is not a Step Recording feature in a non-linear fashion, as present in other Korgs machines such as M50, Triton, M1, etc.:

"Step recording is the recording method in which you specify the duration and strength of each note, and use the keyboard to specify the pitch of each MIDI note."

In other words:

It is not possible to record, copy/put the Pattern Sequencer pattern data to a Sequencer (MIDI channel)?

I believe it should be possible though, as the KROSS Parameter Guide manual says the following:

---

Step Seq
The MIDI transmit channel of the step sequencer in Program mode
is specified by the Step Seq Prog MIDI Ch setting. The Step Seq
Prog MIDI Out setting specifies whether MIDI note data of the
pattern will be transmitted.

+

Prog MIDI Out [Off, On]
On (checked): The note data of the step sequencer pattern will be
transmitted on the channel specified by Prog MIDI Ch.

---

Theoretically, it should be possible to record the MIDI data output of the KROSS Pattern Sequencer to a MIDI track on its onboard MIDI Sequencer.

Can someone test and confirm this, please?

Yes, note data generated by the step sequencer can be recorded into the sequencer without issue (into either track 15 or 16, I can't remember which). The step sequencer will sync its clock with the sequencer and lock to the same beat.

For melodic data, the arpeggiators are also useful as step sequencers - there's a fixed pitch mode where you can specify a note for each "lane" of the arp.

Sadly, there's no step recording mode on the Kross, unlike the Triton/M50/M3/Krome/Kronos.

Wonderful, that will make it possible to engage in advanced drum track programming. Especially as you can change the Step Sequencer resolution.

You can indeed. It works quite well!
