So nothing new from Korg in 2023 ? Thats pathetic. No new Updates for the Opsix, the last big Update was in Oct. 2021 and there are still Bugs here. Where is the Wavestate SE?? No Replacement for the Prologues, no new Electribes/Grooveboxes. No new Workstation like an Oasys 2, no new Physical modeling Synths like Z1. No Sequencer Updates for Korg Kronos and Nautilus, i mean the Sequencer in the old Korg M3 has already a Pianoroll Editor but not in the Oasys,Kronos and Nautilus. No new Synths from Korg with complex Multistage Envelopes , they are still hanging around with ADSR Envelopes. Or a new Synth based on A.I. Sound Generation. Something interesting like NI Massive X or Reaktor in Hardwareform. A new Karma Keyboard?? No korg updater for IOS tablets to make updates for all actual Korg Synths quick and easy, plug and install, like the Modal App.

I admit that it's a slow time.

I'm OK with the occasional lull - what bothers me more is the steps backward on what they do have. The Krome is out with no replacement. The Nautilus isn't a Kronos on its best day. The Electribe 2 is ... well, it's OK. And it has continued to be ... just OK. The Volca family is pretty much quiet at this point. The various desktop synths leave me cold at their bang/buck ratio, and how many guitar tuners does one need?

Oh, well. We shall see what happens when they find the next innovative engineer.

Something to think about… and remember!

Many innovations which are announced, are generally the brain child of a lead RD engineer or someone within a dept of the much much larger company. If that person leaves the company often times that awesome thing we have all gotten hyped about will be shelved by the parent company.

And when / if, we are lucky, that person or group of people form a new company to further their ideas, granted copyrights have to be transferred in one way or another.

Or as is often the case in very large companies, the situation of budget cuts and cross market competition puts ideas and emerging gear into a tailspin…This competition can even happen between dept’s of the same company. A great innovation in a particular product line might cut into the market of the same companies other more profitable products….

Nonetheless and allthemore, sucks for us!!!

Superbooth 23 starts tomorrow (11th May). Korg have two stands, one of which is Korg Berlin. They are rumoured to be showing their prototype of the new Acoustic Synthesis Phase 5 module, which seems to use some form of mechanical excitation. At first glance, it looks like it's going to be a bit of a niche product. Nonetheless, it may turn out to be capable of producing some interesting and novel sonic textures.

Then there's the microKORG Crystal, to celebrate 20 years of the microKORG. Not sure there's anything particularly new inside. More of a cosmetic reimagining.

We maybe don’t need new Kronos but also we can’t find it new!!
So, I think Korg must reveal a new Kronos for the people who need it!!

Acoustic Synthesis Phase 5 module idea is exciting. I visualize a different synthesis approach finally being developed instead of a rehash. It could branch out in several different directions as well. Very interesting!

New synthesis systems are all very well, and can be inspiring or thought-provoking. On the other hand, in a world where things like the Access Virus or Waldorf Blofeld are both more than a decade old, where Kurzweil's V.A.S.T. is decades old and still supported, where synthesis widgets like the Roland Boutiques, KORG Volcas and MicroKORGs are around, where sampler technology is mature and available from multiple sources including Roland and Akai Professional, new synthesis approaches don't add all that much to the landscape of sonic potential that we already have.

Tools to support the composer, arranger and producer interest me more and frankly this is where KORG has innovated less. The SQ64 is all right, but not defining the cutting edge. Karma is nice - but not on any new KORG devices of which I'm aware (more's the pity). They even dropped the MicroArranger, which punched well above its weight even though it was a retread of (if memory serves) the PA50. The Electribe2 is nice, but could really be developed to a sort of SuperTribe equivalent with an improved song mode and some acceleration around rekeying or transposing sections to create a composition monster - or dedicate hardware running an embedded version of Gadget with similar features.

Well, we shall see whether they find these gaps in their own capabilities.

Seems several companies have either redesigned a product with improved features or reintroduced a previous model with more modern features.
In amateur radio there have been prototypes displayed at conventions and festivals but finding parts for production has been a big hurdle. I suspect the electronic music industry has had similar trouble that have slowed down or hindered production of new and existing equipment.
I am quite pleased with the Korg Kross 2 88 key and the EK-50 CSA that I bought last month. It has exceeded my expectations.
My cousin was in a band so I am familiar with moog and a few other synthesizers. But they are well out of my finance range. The Korg had features and sounds that are what I wanted.
I’m sure Korg is striving to come out with interesting products in the future. Also their connection to Yamaha made the difference to me.
