OMG! I didn't know this was out there. I didn't even remember it (this particular promo) - but I do remember performing those songs live in Japan.
Wow, that was literally 30 years ago this year. Nice hair!
Thanks for this link!
Incidentally, it was while working on the i-Series (I wrote a bunch of the Styles, and helped develop some of the software) that I began tinkering with what would eventually become KARMA. _________________ Stephen Kay - KARMA Developer • Karma-Lab - karma-lab.com

So NAMM 2024 is 7 months away. Apparently, it'll be a 4 day event in January again like it used to be. Is it because of a contract they had with the convention center, or just a desperate attempt to revive the show? _________________ Sam

Is there any book on Karma that would help me understand it? _________________ Casio LK280 > Korg Pa600 > Korg Pa5X

If you have not already, I can suggest checking out the KARMA-Lab website/forum/wiki, for most everything KARMA related, where Stephen does still often reply to forum posts and maintains fantastic support for his products! And there are also many in-depth Guides which Stephen and other contributor’s have produced to assist us better understand and get the most from it…

I don’t know of any “published” books regarding KARMA specifically, although this is something which will be awesome to create! Stephen has appeared in several magazines and a book highlighting the visionary artists of the industry.

Better file management regime (time to let go of the convoluted referencing system: for each song, combi and program simply store all the parameters in each object, rather than having to deal with bank and reference management).

Bingo! This should have been done a long time ago, post Triton days, about the same time as when floppy disks were removed. A few extra kilobytes per object these days is negligible. But, we're talking about a rewrite of core workstation routines and architecture, something that Korg hasn't done in decades - software more than anything may be the biggest impediment to a new flagship workstation. _________________ bpoodoo

Looking back on NAMM 2023, I'm trying to decide who won the show.
I think, perhaps Intellijel - and Polyend. Nothing from the big three really wowed me, with maybe a nod of the head to Yamaha's mixers at most.
So much for the dream of a Kronos replacement. |

Fully agree with Intellijel as a standout. It has received quite a bit of press and the reviews are generally positive. Although some have voiced concern with the “market space” it is placing itself within. Personally I really like to sound and signal flow it showcased.
Truly wondered what new marketing strategies the “big 3” are looking to deploy. Perhaps BIG shows are simply too much noise. Much like the early West Coast Computer Faire’s, which drastically changed when the general public became a larger share of the visitors over the industry insiders showcasing their ‘wares…
I could see where any of the “big 3” could do the same as that certain “fruit company” did by setting up their own show and then eventually bypass the consumer shows all together and focus on invite “boutique” showcase events and just use the interweb of things for general consumer announcements.

The fines imposed on Korg, and other manufacturers and retailers, following the price fixing investigations in the UK back in 2020, and in Germany, will almost certainly have had a negative impact on Korg's R&D spend, and on their marketing expenditure. The musical instruments industry ecosystem has always seemed to be quite fragile. It tries to present itself as having a glossy exterior, but the triple whammy of fines, COVID, and electronic components shortages, have probably contributed to Korg, and others, adopting a low key NAMM approach.
