See that what I write below is only "what I heard"... And so, modwave has a frequency/key slope parameter. If 1.00, there are 12 notes per octave. If 0.50, there are 24 of them. But if you thought that you may set it to 7- or 31-tone, then no, as the setting precision is limited and thus, you can set the slope to 1.7 but not to 1.7143. If this parameter had an alternate definition "number of notes per octave", or at least a precision of 5 decimal places, it would work, though.

So in a pinch, everything which separates Modwave from being a microtonal synthesizer is a user interface detail.
