One of the limitations of the M50 is the inability to import sampled sounds.
I am desperately still trying to replicate the Bon Jovi talk-box sound that appears on "Living on a Prayer" and "Its My Life". The previous keyboard player used a sample uploaded to the Kronos, but this poor old man cannot afford a Kronos just yet - and I won't buy one just to make some Bon Jovi songs sound a bit better!
Has anyone on here created a decent patch to replicate this sound?
I've had to make other combis too which had also been previously triggered by the other dude's Kronos such as the Synclavier patch on Michael Jackson's "Beat It". Again, if someone has successfully created this patch please get in touch!

Fortunately, the band I am in has a guitar player who uses a talk box for that very reason. He also uses it for Joe Walsh's 'Rocky Mountain Way' with great success.

With that said, you may be able to create something that is similar, but less detailed...

Check out page 300 in the Parameter Guide, as it talks about an effect called the Talking Modulator. This allows for formant sounds that can sound similar to vowel articulation.

I suspect that you would end up using all of the IFX to create a guitar patch that would emulate that.

For the guitar sound, you may want to take a look at 'Boutique Lead'. I believe that is the name of the guitar program among so many others in the M50. I use that sound as the basis for ALL of my lead guitar sounds that I use live on the M50 in a duo project I have (in addition to the band I play keyboards in).

First, you would need to use a Tube Preamp model. Then you would want to use the OD/Wah model for distortion on the guitar itself and you can control the WAH from the joystick. Then you could insert the Talking Modulator and see what kind of results you can get. If you do not want to use the distortion, then you could change the Hi-Gain to Overdrive in order to use the gain of the 'amp' itself to help drive the volume of the sound.

Another thing that I have done on my guitar sounds to help make them a bit more real sounding is to assign the pitch to one of the buttons above the joystick. I set the pitch a bit lower in the Pitch menu so that is creates a 'slide' effect instead of using the joystick to bend the initial pitch of the guitar sound when you first hit the note. I also have a PA700 and it has samples of slides, mutes, pinches, etc... but the M50 lacks these samples. Creating a pitch slide controlled by that button helps make it sound a bit more real.

I do not remember my pitch settings off hand, but I think that I used the -2.40 level in the pitch mod to make that happen. I will check later today as I am in the studio and update.

Send me a PM and I can send you the details. I may play around with the Talking Modulator as well and see if I can create something that I can send over to you - or at least get some settings written up that you can use...

Grace,
Harry

I messed around with creating a Talk Box sound earlier and this is what I came up with... will this work?

This is using the Talking Resonator. I can send the details of the settings in a PM if you like...
