What I want to do is find a few sound effects audio files, such as a lion's roar, and load them into my Kronos memory, assign them to a Combi (like in the lowest few notes of my 88 key range), and save it.

When I do a google search on this I get a bunch of hits on how to use the sampling features of the Kronos. I don't want to sample. I want to find a sound for this (still looking, by the way), upload it, assign it to a Combi, and save it for playback.

While I'm at it, if anybody knows of a nice collection of sound effects that might include other sounds from nature, bees buzzing, crickets, thunder claps, etc. I would appreciate it.

There are a ton of sites where you can get sounds and special effects. You’ll want to obtain them in WAV format, or convert.

Once you have the WAV file you can use the Sampling function to import and map to a key or range. I think the process is documented here already - I’ll go see if I can find the post, else I can share my documented steps.

A sound recording has to be assigned to keys somehow (unless it's recorded in a song using the Kronos' Sequencer) and using Sampling mode is the way to do it.

Here's a useful resource:

http://bbcsfx.acropolis.org.uk/

I also recollect Irish Acts, run by Sharp, who maintains this forum, make mention of sound effects, possibly in a YouTube video.

Here’s the link to the thread I was thinking of:

http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=120429&highlight=sampling+ksc

In case you’re not aware, there’s a search feature up above which works quite well... I used the following query and found several useful hits you might find helpful:

Sampling AND KSC AND MS

I limited the search to the Kronos forum.
