Hi friends

Forum is a little quiet so thought I'd feed back a little bit of trivia regarding an experience I had a few days ago.
I have a friend who owns a recording studio and is also an amazing musician (keyboards).
In his studio he has a Nord Stage 3, Rhodes, Moog, Dave Smiths, several Rolands, a Johannus organ, Hammond Xk3c and more (including some Behringer gear!!!).
The quality of his gear is outstanding with incredible speaker systems worth $25,000+ (He produces amazing recordings).

He wanted to hear my PA4X so I visited him with it a few days ago.
He is (justifiably) VERY critical of keyboard sounds and DAC quality etc... so I was expecting some "nice but" comments.

We hooked up my PA4X through his studio and we were both blown away.
He couldn't get over the quality of the sounds and we even did some A/B comparisons with the PA4X DRAWBAR with his keyboards.

Hearing my PA4X through all this gear was very satisfying and further confirms my total satisfaction level with my PA4X and value for money!!

I have no idea where Korg may go in the future but this keyboard is going to be hard to beat IMHO.

Take care

Pete Very Happy

Hi Pete, did you use the MAXXAUDIO in this session in conjunction with his studio gear? or did you switch MAXXAUDIO off? Would be interesting to here the process you guys used in this setting.....

Nice! Wonder if this applies to pa700/1000 also, since they share the same sound engine with the pa4x.

Hi Pete,
I have my PA4X sitting above a Legend Live drawbar organ and a set of Roland bass pedals and the main use of the PA4X (for me anyway) is as a high quality sound module. I don't seem to get as involved with the styles as I do with just playing the actual sounds.
I did mention in a different post how good I thought the sounds were (and there are hundeds of them). The only disappointment for me are the core organ sounds on the PA4X and as a result I purchased the Viscount Legend Live. If you are a 'Hammond' fan I'm sad to say the PA4X just does not compare. Even some software clones are better.
The dealer I purchased the PA4X based in Leicester, U.K. pre-loaded (free of charge) into the user voice sections both the TTT theatre organ samples and also a set of authentic church organ samples (from soft pipe to Cathedral organ) so along with the other sounds it's a pretty formidable keyboard.
Chris
p.s. Thanks for the Maxx E.Q. settings.

Hey Chris

I have also been disappointed with the DRAWBAR sound but what I didn't mention in my OP is that we significantly experimented with DRAWBARs up against my friend's Hammond Xkc3 and Nord Stage 3. I was shocked at how well the PA4X shaped up - I need to modify some DB settings a lot more.
My friend, who is more critical than anyone else I know, was pleasantly surprised at the PA4X DRAWBARS. Agree that it isn't a HAMMOND but when we were trying this out, I have to admit I have changed my views somewhat.

So I'm going to dedicate some serious DRAWBAR time on the PA4X.

Take care

Hi Pete,

If you come up with anything even mildly significant with your drawbar experimentation, please let us know.

Thanks,
Bill

But, bottom line, if you are playing Hammond sounds without a swell (expression) pedal, you might as well give up. Even a real Hammond mostly sucks if you aren’t using the swell..! They aren’t all that balanced over the full keyboard range (although generally a bit better than most sims) and a bit peaky at some drawbar settings, so you find yourself always shading the line to keep things even.

I’ve seen a lot of arranger players miss this step. And you can’t even use a short throw expression pedal that well. The Hammond’s swell is quite long throw, which makes it much easier to shade with subtlety...

Hi Pete,
Hope your well in sunny Sydney. Im in Melbourne which is still shutdown.
Just loaded the MAXX Audio settings you listed and was blown away with the sound. I've had my PA4x for 3 years and never turned on the MAXXAudio.
You mention the settings were from Korg1. What do you mean?
Interested in how you came up with these numbers.
Is there any good training on youtube on MAXXAUDIO?
Regards, Ross

The best idea for MAXX Audio settings is tweaking MAXX Audio parameteres by your ear.

Hey Rosco

Yes, we're all good thanks and hope you are too.
Sorry, I should have explained that "Korg1" is a forum member here who kindly shared his settings.
As you can see in the MaxxAudio screens, you can save your settings and name them.
So, it is well worthwhile trying out settings for the different "audio" gear you use - e.g. headphones, studio monitors, live gig sound gear - will most likely need differing settings for each of those. I make sure my audio gear is set at a "flat" EQ and use the MAXXAUDIO setting to "setup" my sound. I am not aware of any youtubes on this, but seriously, have a good play around with it and see what you get. I find that doing that requires you to stop after a while because your brain loses perspective - it's like editing a sound, you get to a point when you have to stop, have a break, and come back to it.

There are some MAXXAUDIO presets too that might give you a starting point.

This is the post which includes some nice suggestions (incl. from Korg1):-

Pete correct me if I'm wrong and I've been wrong many a times..

korg1
shared his settings it we thank him for that he does great work.

But when I look at the factory presets they were very close to what korg1 set up ...

So what I'm thinking is that korg gave us a good starting point from the factory setup ...

Everyone keep posting your ideas,, good ones and bad ones doall worth listening to,,

korg wants to sell keyboards so I would think that they would setup sound and styles for 90% of the people to like.

I think they have young professionals with very good ears to mix and fix everything on the keyboard.
Now with that said I have found some sounds I don't like on it..
But overall everything is usable as it is..
With that said..
the pa4x is very usable right out of the box factory original..
Just my opinion which is worth a Cup of coffee if you're in town

Yep - the tweaking Korg1 did worked just perfectly for me - he has come up with some great tips & information.

I think they already do this but we all have such different audio gear so it becomes near impossible to get it right - it is a very subjective area. e.g I find the Genos so "over-DSP'd" that I would need to change a lot of it before using live - but this is all so personal - many like the heavy DSP.

PA4X has such superb tools built-in that there's a lot of variety as required.

Cheers

Hi,as i 've already said, these settings came after many configurations and measurements using spectrum analyzer.
They are not perfect, since there is limitation on bands,
but it's a preset that will work on stage,at any live gig,
no matter what the PA system is,
there will be no problems with subs either,
and the overall sound will be clearer.

I don't believe that factory settings are close to that,as Duby2 said,
although i wish they had such presets already included,it would be a time saver for us.

greetings!!!!!
