I was reading about replacing the factory ssd drive. Just for protection against failures, and to avoid cloning, can I use a 120 Gb. sdd drive and install everything from the 3 DVD? (Because I did read that the system don't format ssd that are more than 128 GB.)

Thanks for the advice!!!

Best bet is to buy a new, larger capacity SSD drive, clone the stock drive and expand the partition, then put the original drive away in safe keeping.

I believe that you would need to go through an authorization process if you try to install on a bare drive from DVD’s.

Well, I do have a brand new 500 GB ssd, do you need a computer with Linux installed in order to use clonezilla? I know that Gparted just runs from USB, but don't know about clonezilla...What's about the authorization? It's a serial number?

Cheers!

Hi iskra-loop,

Both gParted and Clonezilla will run on a non-Linux PC. Follow what Purgatory says in the first post in the link below and ignore the rest (unless you can't complete the task using this method). It worked just fine for me and many others.

About the authorization stuff, as specified below a sector by sector copy will save you lots of problems. Otherwise, several additional steps must be done using the DVDs, entering codes if you have additional sound libraries, etc.

Or buy something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/SSK-Aluminum-External-Duplicator-Function/dp/B07WS59SP4/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=ssk+ssd+duplicator&qid=1595894192&sr=8-3

You'd still have to hook it up to a computer to expand the drive space, but if you have a smaller SSD or don't care about using the extra capacity it will clone the drive to drive perfectly.

I used one to clone my original drive onto a 250GB SSD, then connected the enclosure to my PC via USB to perform the expansion.

Easy peasy.

Thanks Tunaman, that's a great option, because I don't have space in my notebook to put 2 SSD...

Cheers.
