Any clues or tips on adjusting or adding aftertouch to a sound. I can see how to adjust the aftertouch curve in the global settings but am struggling to find aftertouch settings in individual sounds.

I have looked through the parameter guide but with over 1000 pages and a lousy index its a challenge! Any clues greatfully received - I've had this beast about 12 months now, give me another year I might be close to mastering it.

Great forum, very useful - thanks one and all.

Aftertouch can be selected as an AMS (Alternative Modulation Source) in many places in Programs and Combis. Look for the AMS dropdown menus, where After Touch should be present in the list that pops up. Select the After Touch option and not Poly After Touch (the Kronos keyboard doesn't generate Poly After Touch messages), and don't forget to set the Intensity of the AMS to a non-zero value. Start with 99 for Intensity, just to get the maximum effect, and then dial it back to get the right amount of Aftertouch response.

Apart from selecting different Aftertouch curves, it is also possible to perform an Aftertouch Calibration, in Global mode, using the dropdown menu at top right of the screen, when in the Global Basic | Basic, Basic | Audio, and Basic | Network menus. If you want Aftertouch to respond to relatively low key pressure, it may be necessary to make several calibration attempts, until the calibration completes successfully, but it is possible. The procedure involves pressing any key and gradually increasing the pressure, but not pressing the key down any more strongly than the maximum pressure you would wish to have at the top of the aftertouch curve.

There is another user of the forums (name is KK), who claims to have performed a mod to the Kronos, to allow the Aftertouch sensitivity threshold to be tweaked, but they remain very coy about the details of the mod. See here:

Hi Clivec,

The best way to practice is to start with existing programs that use AT. In program mode, click on the magnifying glass and type "koto". Then find and select the Koto SW1 AT-Bend program. In this case, AT is used on pitch.

Click the OSC/Pitch tab and then check OSC1 Pitch and OSC2 Pitch tabs. You will see that in both cases the pitch is set to AMS Mixer 2, with an intensity of +2 semi-tones. Now click on the AMS Mix/C.KeyTrk tab and then OSC1 AMS Mix and OSC1 AMS Mix. Those two mixers are quite useful and enable you to combine more than one source to modify anything.

To simplify, now only check the right part of the screen : the AMS Mixer 2 in both oscillator tabs. You can see that the two sources for both are set to AMS Mixer 1 and SW1. You can also see that the mixers are set to Type "A X B". This means the mixers multiply both source values together. Now, since the SW1 at off position equals 0, nothing will happen with the pitch or aftertouch (since 0 times anything gives 0), unless you push the SW1 switch to on. Then it will give the +99 value as set in the AMS mixer.

Now do the following to experiment. Don't worry since nothing will be kept if you don't save the program and it will remain as before. Change the AMS A and AMS B sources of both AMS Mixers to Aftertouch instead and change the AMS A amounts to +99 for both OSCs. This will give you a way too intense pitch aftertouch, but it's just for you to see how it works. BTW, if you have a PC, there is a great freeware called TidyKronos and with it you can quickly find what all the AMS sources do in each program instead of searching everywhere in many tabs.
