Does the Kronos LS use the same motherboard as the Kronos2-88?

Is it this? https://www.fullcompass.com/prod/532135-korg-200002189810-main-motherboard-pcb-assembly-for-kronos-2

Yes, it has the same m/b. Your link is correct.

$397.58 ?????

Unbelievable !

If it's a Korg custom motherboard then I would not say a word.
But to ask $397.58 for this "OBSOLETE CRAP" is beyond me.
I could buy for that money ASUS ROG Maximus XI ( Gen.9), or ASRock X399 Pro or even workstation class board ASRock Rack EP2C612 WS.
Simply rip-off !

If my Kronos breaks down, and warranty expires, I simply sell it for parts.

I believe it a custom made ASROCK m/b for the Kronos.

Maybe it is wiser to ask for a price at your local dealer. They will give you a price that includes the labor costs. I don't know the amount. Maybe it is higher, maybe lower. One thing is for sure...i never judge from the prices i see in third party sellers.

$397 does seem like some ' gouging ' or taking advantage of some scarcity.

I think Full Compass is a good service outlet. They have been at it for many years. So sure, they need to make a profit.

I have to accept that this is the way capitalism works. I wouldn't compare the part to a common or high end new MoBo that a user can install in his game PC.
Seems like apple oranges comparing.

If the price is too high, shop around.

@xtatty,

From my online research, I learnt that the second SATA port on this motherboard was beneath the keys on the Kronos2-73 and Kronos2-88 versions.

Is it also beneath the keys on the Kronos LS version? Can you upload a picture of your dual SSD setup with the motherboard SATA connections?

Just curious to learn more about the Kronos LS because there is limited information available on the Internet.

See my comment # 3 in my reply to the following topic for a 88-key Kronos 2. I don't know about the 88-key LS version, but it's likely it also has the additional metallic protective panels inside (details in the link).

Thank you for the response @KK.

Awaiting a confirmation from @xtatty, who already owns the Kronos LS.

The 2nd sata connection is not beneath the keys on the LS.
In the following link is the m/b of my LS after the installation of the 2nd SSD.

If you need any more info about the LS feel free to ask.

@xtatty,

Thank you. How did you strap the new SATA cable on the existing SATA cables to prevent it from dropping in the unit? What did you buy (post a link to the product please)?

I used tire-ups:
https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=tire-ups

I strapped the new sata cable on the old one, without making any changes to the old bindings. My new sata cable was a little longer than i wanted, so i had to fit it the way you see at the pictures in the following links:

@xtatty,

Thank you for your help. I will ask a Korg authorized service center to add the second SSD because my Korg Kronos LS is under manufacturer warranty.

I am adding this Western Digital 500 GB SSD: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073SBZ8YH/ref=twister_B07WXNPZL3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Much appreciated.

Hi,

Has any one tried replacing the Korg Kronos 2 Motherboard with a new one. Just in case the existing Motherboard fails, can we buy a new Motherboard and install inside Kronos 2 ?

https://www.fullcompass.com/prod/532135-korg-200002189810-main-motherboard-pcb-assembly-for-kronos-2

The replacement part is $397.58, that's a big pricing for a Motherboard.

Inside of Kronos 2 is a Intel Desktop Board D510MO (E210882) Motherboard.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B003374OWW/ref=dp_olp_afts?ie=UTF8&condition=all
Here the price is $150.00 and in other resources the price is less as well.

Has any one tried upgrading the Motherboard of Kronos 2 for speedy performance ?

Any suggestions on replacing the new Motherboard or a upgraded one.

Please advise,
Thanks,
Stephen

I am not clear- why do you think the Mobo will fail today or next month, etc ?

I don't believe a new more powerful MoBo will give a significant increase in performance

and are you still within your K2 warranty ? You will technically void it by doing a DIY

Lots of posts on this if you google search the forum

Hi,
I'm not purposely saying that the motherboard will fail. There are discussions about upgrading the factory SSD, and many have done that also. So I had a opinion on upgrading the Motherboard. Not intended to do so.

And DIY is also simple. Korg operates from a PC Mother board. And most of us have knowledge on installing a mother board, Hard disk etc. I guess once in their life time atleast a person might have done that, with their PC. So in a similar way, I had a idea of trying so.

I live in a remote area where it's hard to find a authorised service center to fix the issues. So I feel good to gather knowledge about the instrument, like this. Even if the instrument is in warranty, i had to spend a lot of money to transport the instrument to the place when it gets fixed. So I have asked the valuable suggestions, as a preliminary caution.

And in the Korg Kronos 2 Restore pdf document which the company had provided, they have mentioned that just in case the SSD gets corrupted like things. So we can be prepared for such things, in future if we come across.

Thanks for your valuable comments.
Stephen
