Hello
Do you know if there is a special procedure with PA4x to unplug USB stick while keyboards is running (in other words without shutting down pa4x) ?
On a standard computer we have to select "remove usb device" or "eject" function from Windows but I don't see anything like this on PA4x
Because yesterday I unplugged my usb stick from Pa4x and since this action my stick is dead. I don't want to crash all my usb units.
Thanks

I always Hotswap my USB sticks and USB drives, the big thing to keep in mind though is NEVER unplug a SD card from the rear port when the PA4x is on and by on I mean connected to the mains, disconnect the power cord once shutdown before removing the SD card.
Did you format your usb stck in the Pa4x?
Swap my usb sticks all the time but never had one corrupted _________________ Yamaha S90ES, Korg Triton Pro, EXB Moss, Roland XV5080, Korg EX8000, Korg Pa4x 76, Korg Kronos 88, Crumar MOJO, Logic Pro X, V Collection, Novation SL61,Vienna, Korg Pa4x , EC-5, Vienna, Arturia V Collection, Roland SC88 Pro, Roland D110, Alesis SR16, Alesis D4 |

Hi
No I didn't format my stick with PA4x.
I used it as it was formated when I bought it (i think it was formated in extfat)
Do you think it's the problem?
As far as I know PA4x just format usb stick in fat32 . I don't understand where can be the problem but maybe I miss something important.
Do you use special usb stick or any model in shops is ok ? (It was Hama stick , not the best quality I suppose ) |

I swap my sticks without turning off the Pa4x, never had a problem. I did format one of the sticks on the Pa though, not sure if this would make any difference. _________________ Korg Pa4X, 2018 MacBook Air, Logic Pro X, Mainstage 3. |

It is always best to shut down any keyboard before removing a plug in memory unit.
Just because someone has not had any problems Does Not mean that this will always be the case.
yes, best to err on the side of safety. _________________ Biggles

Just don't disconnect it while it is in use. I have swapped them for years without problem. _________________ DonM |

The PA4X is designed to allow hot-swapping of USB drives but as Don says make absolutely sure that there is no USB activity - I always get out of MEDIA mode before inserting/removing any USB device.
SD card is different - the PA4X MUST MUST MUST be powered off and with power cord removed BEFORE removing/inserting/changing the SD card.
Think you may have been unlucky with your USB - many of them are poorly made.
Cheers

Hi
I don't think were was any activities as PA4x was on the main screen when I unplugged Stick.
Do you use any kind of usb stick ?
even very low cost ?
USB1.0 ? USb2.0? USB3.0 ?

When it comes to my music data I always go for good quality USB devices - hence possibly more expensive.
Not had a problem so far.

Good advice given.
I use the front USB a lot with Direct Sets.
Good quality sticks have been formatted in my Pc and I have had no trouble.
Using Direct I deselect a set before opening another
and at the end of playing deselect and leave the stick in situ until the Keyboard has shut down.

I use Direct Sets using the internal 1 GB memory only!! I think it's more safe!!
