Hi all!

I am about to buy the new Kenton Pro Solo MK3 MIDI to CV filter and was wondering what parameters can be controlled via MIDI to CV ON THE MS20?

So far I have been able to find out the filters and LFO can be automated, but can the envelopes also be controlled? Either amp env or filter env or both?

Thanks for any insight!

Cheers

Hi,

AFAIK, on the MS20 you can not control the envelope generators. You can only trigger them exernally. The ADSR parameter can only be set using the knobs.
The input of the filters and VCA for the envelope generators can be bypassed by an external CV signal.

Have fun.

Dunno where you read the LFO (MG) can be externally animated (or modulated) as it can't be directly controlled with CV. It can only be varied via the front panel controls. You maybe getting confused with the Kenton Pro Solo Mk3's onboard LFO, which is a very nice addition to the device.

Have a look at the MS20's patch bay and check what you can plug into it. It's got a nice flowchart on it to help you visualise what goes on with it. Basically the top line of sockets are your direct inputs to the oscillator's pitch, the two filter's cut-offs, the VCA level (essentially a way to keep the VCA open if you send it a CV other than 0v) and a all encompassing TOTAL input that will modulate all the levels at once.

If you want to let a MIDI keyboard run your MS20, use the VCO1 and VCO2 inputs under the volume knob with the CV output on the Kenton and run the Gate out into the Trig in in that section also.

The VCA part of the patch bay is an externally controllable VCA that you can use to modulate the amplitude of what you plug into it's input, so using that you can vary the MG with another source that you bring in from the Kenton. The S+H is another way to mess with the MG. Plug the MG Triangle out into the S+H input then use a pulse/square wave or clock source to control the sampling rate. Send the output into the OSC input on the top row of sockets. That is the way to get those classic 1970's 'broken computer' sounds.
Plug stuff into it and see what happens!
