Bought this baby about 5 years ago and never did an update - mainly because I didn't know that I should. Now am afraid the thing will combust or a bunch of functions won't work, if I do do an update. Thoughts? _________________ Lover of Korg Kronos 88

Wait for 3.1.1, 3.1 has some bugs and can freeze your instrument during perfomance.
Or you can update Kronos to 3.0.4, it's more stable |

My 2 cents:
Does your Kronos fit your needs as a musical instrument?
What are your expectations from an upgrade?
Do you have any specific reasons to upgrade from your current version other than upgrading for the sake of upgrading?
Have you noticed issues or missing functions when using your Kronos which prevent you from making the music you want to make with your Kronos and which you know they have been fixed in a more recent OS version?
What would be the *actual* benefits of an upgrade for you and for your music?
Are those expected benefits worth taking the risk of a failed upgrade?
You have been making music for 5 years with your Kronos without feeling the need to upgrade, isn't that a good reason to think that 'if it ain't broken don't fix it' is not a bad principle?
Your answers to those questions should give you a hint about what would be the best decision for you... |

I'm on OS 3.04 and won't be upgrading soon. I will eventually, but I've invested too much time and effort in my current programme / sample / sequence set up which does everything I need it to do. Not worth the risk of updating (for me) at the moment. _________________ Korg Oasys 76, Korg Kronos 2 61, Korg Wavestation EX, Roland Jupiter X, 2 x Roland A800 Pro, Yamaha SY77, MacBook Pro Retina 15-inch Core i7 2.7GHz 16GB / 768GB, MainStage 3, Cymatic uTrack24, Samson S Patch, U-PHORIA UMC404HD Audio interface, Yamaha MG16XU mixer |

Maybe buy a new set of recovery dvds direct from korg. You could do a factory restore and everything will be installed as korg intended. But you may consider pull the old harddrive and put a new 120gb SSD with 500mb per sec up and down transfer rate. Plus update your ram to a dual channel 2gb x2=4gb corsair xms kit. Maybe a new fan too.. lol What scared? Hehe |

I don't update unless and until this forum says the update is OK. _________________ JP

Each to their own, but it's sad to see how much fear has been expressed in this post. It's true that updating some other synths in the distant past has been complex or unreliable due to the fact that the technology of the time was rickety, but that really isn't the case with the Kronos. Just back up your work - like you should do anyway, on a regular basis - follow the simple instructions, and it'll be fine. Genuinely, you are missing out on some nice stuff. |

Not updating just means to rob oneself of lots of improvements. And the Kronos has seen HUGE improvements over the years.
But I won't prevent anyone from limiting himself massively. _________________ Kronos 73 - Moog Voyager RME - Moog LP TE - Behringer Model D - Prophet 6 - Roland Jupiter Xm - Rhodes Stage 73 Mk I - Elektron Analog Rytm MkII - Roland TR-6s - Cubase 12 Pro + Groove Agent 5 |

That is true. But maybe keeping a Kronos on 2.0 makes it a ' collectible '
