The best thing about teamviewer on iPad is, it all seems seamless like using native touch gestures on the remote display. Makes working with the DAW so easy at times, pinch to expand etc.
Do give that a try especially when it's free for home use and works wirelessly. |
But for that, I'll need to be connected to the internet, which I'd like to avoid at all costs. There is simply too much of a risk of a notification, an unexpected update that might restart the computer without my control, anything that can alter the computer in any way other than Mainstage.
I want my Mainstage computer to be completely isolated from the internet when I'm performing.
BTW, I'm using a powered hub to all my connections, controllers, interface, etc. And that hub is zip tied to my keyboard stand, which have all the cables all neated up throught the legs. So, there are only two cables out, one USB to the mac, and a standard power plug to feed up the hub. So tethering the iPad is of no concern, since I only need to plug the lightning cable to the hub, which is right in front of me. Besides, the iPad will never run out of batteries this way. _________________ Martin Ocando

Using the ipad as the display of your Mac works like a remote desktop App... trough an ap that support this feature you can show the desktop of any computer (MAC, PC or Linux) that supports this feature...
However, if you want to use the ipad for controlling mainstage, i would advise to use a specialised app that allows you to create your own custom interface and control mainstage over midi.... there is quite a few of them |
I don't want to control mainstage from the iPad. I have a somewhat complex setup for each song that our band play, so I just need to see the Mainstage screen, since I have display controls that shows me when a lead patch is muted or not, or a small description of what the sustain pedal does on a particular patch, or the lyrics for my Vocoder line, or the patch name in big letters, so I know I'm on the right patch, etc. I control patch up and down with my controller's drumpads. _________________ Martin Ocando

Not necessarily,
I only use as a local LAN. As suggested you can use ad hoc. Or create a secondary network un-bridged from WAN/Internet.
In your case , yes it seems logical as having it wired is of no concern.
In my use case I don't always Like or want to sit at my music or computer stations/desks, due to my back, so it works out quite good on bed or the couch, while resting to set things up, that along with NetMIDI and midibridge apps also provides for wireless midi from iPad. To me it gives touch access to my vst synths, like omnisphere or others, which are only marginally mapped to control surfaces. _________________ DX7-MOD-7 Patches | Korg Related Content

That's a solution. I'll keep that option in mind. Thanks. _________________ Martin Ocando
