|
|
Once I have my Kronos opened up, I'd like to know exactly where to put the extra 1 gig of RAM that I have just purchased. On one thread, it said to put it in the 2nd open slot. It's unclear from the pics I've seen how I would distinguish between slot #1 and slot #2. Thus, does anyone know if it even matters what slot I put my extra 1 gig of Ram. And, if it DOES matter, which slot do I put it in? (I did purchase the RAM type rec'ed by a very detailed posting from someone who seemed highly knowledgeable.)
Thanks.

Is it only 1 gig? You already have 2 in there and you should put a 2 gig in it from all of what I have read. The KRONOS will accept 4 gig but only 3 will be available. Not sure if 1 gig will do any good. It will also solve your problem since there are only 2 slots. |

I thought I had understood from reading multiple messages that the Kronos can only use a max of 3 gig of RAM. Thus, adding another 2, on top of the 2 it comes with (that is, the original Kronos) is OK to do, but more than it needs. I figured 1 gig is perfect. DOes anyone else have info on this?

I think the OS can only address 3.1 gig ( rounded up #) . Thus the O/p might be leaving some small capacity on the table with the 1 gig.
And there isn't much price diff between 1 gig and 2 gig RAM, so I agree with you on the 2 gig. And we can dream that Korg might 1 day boost up the OS from the currently addressable ceiling or upper limit _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8

There are only 2 slots for RAM. This is how they handle the ' numbering ":
RAM Slot 0 -- One 2GB RAM stick installed
RAM Slot 1 -- EMPTY
Simply install your 1 gig of RAM in the available open slot.
I am am unaware of any need to start swapping the 2 gig out of the slot its currently in. _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8

I'm pretty sure the original Korg upgrade was also just 1GB, there's really no need to buy a 2GB stick but not much harm either if you did, I suppose.
And yes it simply goes into the only available slot. |

Thank you kindly. When I saw a video detailing installation of additional RAM, it showed 2 empty slots. I'll let you know if I find any surprises.

On a Windows system, for memory sticks to work in parallel creating a "dual channel", which increases access speed, they had to be identical in its parameters.
And according to this https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multi-channel_memory_architecture
It is hardware dependent, not OS, so I think Linux will benefit too from same memory types in both slots.
I have two 2 GB sticks of the same type installed. _________________ Current hardware: Kronos-1 61+1GB RAM+2nd HDD 320 Gb, Triton Extreme 76+MOSS+RAM+dual microSD to CF adapter+64 Gb microSD card, Roland GW7, Casio WK-3300, Casio CTK-631, Farfisa child synth, laptop HP Envy dv7 16Gb ram, Core-i7, 128 SSD+720 GB HDD, E-MU 0202 USB Audio Interface.
