|
|
I finally managed to steal about four hours today with a Pa4x 61 note, first impressions are that a 61 won't cut it for me, 76 would be the option.
The dealer I went to had staff with little knowledge about the operation of the keyboard but maybe some with the instrument can help?
I wanted to try some SMFs out and had saved them in format 0 ! Neither the Pa4x or Kronos would read those files ??? The demonstrator had never heard of the 0 and 1 SMF file structure ?? So does the Korg read 0 or 1 ?
Other weird thing is when trying to use just the sounds ( no arranger ) I wanted to use drawbar organ left and right of the split point. While you can configure that what we could not do is have the rotary effect on the lower as well as the upper, could this be a limitation ?
Next up was the harmoniser, lets say that you wanted to provide backing vocals to another singer, is it possible to use the harmoniser in a way that allows the harmony parts to sound based on chord voicing while muting your own voice so it's not audible ???
Any help appreciated ! _________________ Yamaha S90ES, Korg Triton Pro, EXB Moss, Roland XV5080, Korg EX8000, Korg Pa4x 76, Korg Kronos 88, Crumar MOJO, Logic Pro X, V Collection, Novation SL61,Vienna, Korg Pa4x , EC-5, Vienna, Arturia V Collection, Roland SC88 Pro, Roland D110, Alesis SR16, Alesis D4 |

If you stick to format "0" you should be safe - e.g. importing SMFs into PADs will only read "0"

Yes - just turn your main voice to volume "0" or set "Lead Voice" to "mute" in GLOBAL mode
Hope this helps
(Sorry can't help right now re your organ/split/rotary question)

Thanks for the tips on the questions I had, today saw a further opportunity to not only spend more time with the pa4x but also with Korg Product Specialist Tony White at Bonners, today we hooked up the pa4x to a sound system as opposed to headphones yesterday. Wow !!! What a difference it sounds great, we were also able to get my midi files imported, investigate the lead voice mute on the harmoniser, sort out the lower and upper drawbar and rotary problem. Tony has great knowledge of the pa4x and was able to draw my concerns into a decision to place my Order, I had previously ordered one with DV247 but had to cancel it due to poor customer service with them they are essentially box shifters the complete opposite to the friendly service at Bonners and wealth of product knowledge.
Delivery is scheduled for hopefully next month or at worst January, Glad I kicked the Kronos into touch imho a overrated keyboard. Now can't wait to get my pa4x _________________ Yamaha S90ES, Korg Triton Pro, EXB Moss, Roland XV5080, Korg EX8000, Korg Pa4x 76, Korg Kronos 88, Crumar MOJO, Logic Pro X, V Collection, Novation SL61,Vienna, Korg Pa4x , EC-5, Vienna, Arturia V Collection, Roland SC88 Pro, Roland D110, Alesis SR16, Alesis D4 |

Hi, I have a Pa 4x on order, it should arrive next Friday having read the problems, I am beginning to have second thoughts, I have read all the problems, and can't believe Korg has let a product go on sale without having these issues sorted out. Somehow wished I ordered the Tyros 5. Someone please convince me not to cancel my order !! |

Software problems or Hardware?
I've been around for a while and always the first generation units have software bugs. Usually they're sorted out within the first small update or two. ....At least the main ones are solved that way.
Hardware problems are harder to detect as some only show up overtime. Unless you live in a country where there's no official support, (or a convenient way of getting support) you should be ok on that as well. Otherwise, you should really hold on for at least a year or so to see how things are working out for others. _________________ Sam

No need for panic! Issues will be solved, no doubt about it.
It's the same thing with every new release of a keyboard (Korg, Yamaha, Roland, what so ever).
These are all very sophisticated machines, and the real testing has to take place in the real world.
It's impossible to test every possible thing in a testing environment.
I wouldn't want a Tyros 5 instead of a PA4X (or even PA3X), no way!
Cheap plastic (including the sound) versus genuine quality... you made the best purchase possible in the arranger world.
Being one of the first buyers has a downside... you have to go through the phase that some technical issues need to be solved.
As I said, Korg will fix them eventually, but you will need to have some patience.
Once you play your PA4X, all your doubts will disappear and you will be glad you DIDN'T order a T5 instead.
PA4X is a heck of an arranger keyboard, PA3X already was, and PA4X is even better.

Thanks Fransman £2679. Doesn't grow on trees but I am a lot happier now and looking forward to unboxing it next Friday. Would of bought the Musikant version if I didn't need to wait 25 weeks. I am Italian and some styles are in the Musikant version are useful in our kind of music _________________ Korg PA4X. 76

Having spent time with the T5 as much as I respect Yamaha build quality and design I have to agree the Pa4x has a lot going for it especially soundwise. The T5 to my ears sounds sterile and as a few players have remarked everyone sounds the same on a Tyros. The Pa4x really is worth the money so dont see how you could go wrong with it. _________________ Yamaha S90ES, Korg Triton Pro, EXB Moss, Roland XV5080, Korg EX8000, Korg Pa4x 76, Korg Kronos 88, Crumar MOJO, Logic Pro X, V Collection, Novation SL61,Vienna, Korg Pa4x , EC-5, Vienna, Arturia V Collection, Roland SC88 Pro, Roland D110, Alesis SR16, Alesis D4 |

Well, if the sound of the Tyros5 sounds like cheap plastic to you... its an even more advanced soundengine then the Motif XF, that is used by many professional studios and musicians all over the world.
So there is definately something wrong with your ears..
Just saying... |

I guess you're right, there must be something wrong with my ears... they've become Korgian I think!
I just don't like the over-produced sounds and styles of the Tyros, it's all too slick, CD-like for me.
Just like the looks of the instrument... toyish.
I don''t see why this instrument is so expensive; it should be like, well, half the price the're asking.
And in that case I would still prefer a PA900 or even a PA600 if I had to choose.
But hey, we're on Korgforums here, so don't be surprised to read some coloured opinions. _________________ Musical grtz, Frans

I guess there's something wrong with mine too.
Tyros has always been over-DSP'd and it is an unprofessional arranger - nothing wrong with that - the OS and physical design is very restrictive and not conducive to a live or recording environment.
Yamaha seem to hang on to that market of home-players who have money
I have never seen one played live, nor been aware of one used in professional recordings.
I am speaking from personal experience but I emphasise "personal" as it would be pointless for me to be part of a T vs. PA argument here.
If the Tyros seriously has a more advanced sound engine than the Motif XF, then Yam have destroyed it in the T5 - but, if not, then XF is also off my wish-list!!!
I seriously wish that Yamaha/Roland/Ketron/Casio would produce a professional arranger - that would be exciting.
I am NOT blinkered by the "Korg" logo but for now, I'll stay with the only professional arranger - been that way since the i3 (IMHO)
Just saying.....

I really weighed up both Tyros 5 and PA4x and I used to have a Yamaha Organ many years ago I even remember the model it was the ME50 Electone, a great instrument for its time, build, perfect, so I tended to stear towards the tyros 5 because its Yamaha, even with Yamaha's advanced sound engine and crispness of its samplied sounds it does sound clinical and not as natural as the PA4X in my opinion, but hey that's just me everyone's different, I think the real competitor for the PA4x will be Yamaha's flagship Tyros in 2017 until then it's Korg all the way. _________________ Korg PA4X. 76

I have said it before and will reiterate the point that the Korg Pa4x has been designed for live players, I have seen the T4 and T5 bring used professionally by hotel players, its big especially when flightcased, big foot print on stage and yes it looks like a toy.
The pa4x looks far more business like, has features the gigging musician will appreciate but at nearly £2,800 Korg need to address the Sonbook issues in the next OS update 1.03.
How the pa4x has been released with those problems is beyond me korg need to get to work and sort out these issues.
I am sure there will always be snags the coming months with more sales, more users will see the snag list grow but Korg could not see a top end arranger advertising that it might not function correctly could they ? _________________ Yamaha S90ES, Korg Triton Pro, EXB Moss, Roland XV5080, Korg EX8000, Korg Pa4x 76, Korg Kronos 88, Crumar MOJO, Logic Pro X, V Collection, Novation SL61,Vienna, Korg Pa4x , EC-5, Vienna, Arturia V Collection, Roland SC88 Pro, Roland D110, Alesis SR16, Alesis D4 |
