Could all these synth timbres be programmed to a Kronos to produce the sounds on the video clip here?

If so, who could do it, as it has me stumped. Embarassed

I listened to about three minutes and didn't hear anything that couldn't be made in the Kronos. Much is straightforward basic 80's synth. Some sampling can augment and with all the engines available, it should be doable.

That said, copying synth sounds from a song is a lot of work. Separating the instruments and duplicating them is a real art. In a mostly synth arrangement like this one I can see many hours involved depending on how close to the original you want or need to get.

Geoelectro,

You'll be bored sick listening to the whole track but there's a hell of lot going on.
JMJ must have taken a fair length of time to multi track it all, even with all the synths he had to hand back in the day.

I'd be very pleased to achieve all of these independent sounds and create this on a Kronos and then be able to play it, just for my own satisfaction.

Thanks for your input.

Regards,

MC

MOST of those sounds can be achieved by taking factory sounds and tweaking them a little. The more time you put into it, the closer you can get but yes, all sounds in that video can be recreated quite faithfully on the Kronos. When you think about what gear JMJ had at the time, he was working with primarily analog gear so it was mainly saw, sin, square, etc. waves. Way back in the day, JMJ released a few patches for the Korg Triton that recreated some of the Oxygene sounds pretty well.

McHale,

Most people on here would probably think me nuts to bother with something so outdated.
It's the thought of being able to get the Kronos to produce this wall of 'noise' that interests me most and the challenge to try to program it to do that.

It looks like I'll be spending many hours fiddling around inside my Kronos for the coming winter months.

Thanks for pointing out what you have ... appreciated.

Regards,

MC

Outdated?

There are classics that never get outdated...

You REALLY wanna download Dan Stesco's Jarre' combi pack for the Kronos. I think its free, or was when I got it.

Watch his rather instructional youtube video to see how he triggers each part and effect .... all on the kronos.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0xI9RmUsnY

He just saved you 200 hrs of hair pulling tedium. Very Happy

Jarre' has a walk about video tour of his studio, all the equipment he used to make oxygene filled a large area.
Kronos put it all in a box.

Bachus,

There's me thinking I'm the oldest most outdated member on this site and had imagined JMJ to be an old 'has been', like many of my old mates in rock.

Glad to know someone else likes his stuff.

MC

Jones,

Thanks for that!!

I do have some of Dan's stuff and consider him to be a Friend, as I've had frequent contact with him and he knows who I am.

Dan has been working on this for some time and I'm sure he will crack it before I do. There's a lot of timbres to put together to re-create it all. But he's a very busy guy, so it will take a while.

I just thought some of you ultra clever people here may have already re-created it in it's full guise.

MC

I look forward to hearing the result ! It would be interesting to hear how close the Kronos can get to this level of analog warmth !!!
I wish you all the best! It's a great tune !!

PCFREE,

The Kronos can emulate the sounds of yesteryear and give the warmth of the
analog but it takes a while to tweak to achieve some of these older sounds to perfection.
Dan Stesco is an expert at it.
If you haven't heard Dan play, then have a look at his You Tube vids re JMJ.

This particular piece is difficult to emulate as there's so much going on when you listen closely.

I too will be happy to hear the finished sounds in my Kronos.

MC

The Alesis Fusion does a good job of this. It has a very warm sound. I find the Kronos very crisp and a bit clinical.

I've listened to Dan's version and the Alesis fusion. They're both impressive!

Kronos4king,

You're playing Oxygene 4 - not Equinoxe pts 5,6,7...
different timbres.

Nevertheless it's a good sound from the Alesis.

Can't think the Kronos is 'Clinical' though.

MC
