The K2x00 line is legendary for excellent reasons, and the quality of the V.A.S.T. engine doesn't have to take a back seat to anyone. If I were in the market for a flagship workstation, I'd be shooting for the K2700 - and if unable to drum up the cash, I'd go for the PC4 which runs the same software. |
The thing I hate about Kurzweil is their fixation with 88 keys. Granted the PC4 has a 76 key version, but why not offer a 61 key variant? There's a reason why K2661 & PC3's (either) are selling the same day they get posted online. _________________ facebook.com/youwishmusic |

Time for Oasys 2 then .
I am in the market for a successor of my Kronos V1 73.Maybe I'll buy a Montage M8 instead, but I'd love to see a Korg announcement that they are working on something new. I am dreaming of a new groundbreaking platform, just like the OASYS was in it's days. _________________ Rick

And that was my point. Not enough people are willing and/or able to meet the higher price point of the instrument you're demanding. If there were, Korg would be there in a heartbeat. The market will bear the Nautilus at that price point. Korg is going where the market it is. _________________ Kronos 2 88, Kronos Classic 73, PX-5S, Kronos 2 61, Roli Seaboard Rise 49 |

PC DAWs (and Mac too) are just tools.
But they are precisely the magnificent tools that the Kronos of 2014
lacks in 2023
Hopes Hopes Hopes for 2024 anyway !

I don't really agree with danmusician. If that were true, the PA5X would have been dead on arrival, and Yamaha's executives would have been offing themselves on public TV after the Genos utterly tanked.
Price isn't the only determining factor.
The Nautilus costs less than the Kronos used to, but the PA5X costs considerably more; this is normal, but also fairly sane if you consider the feature lists of the devices in question. The PA5X does a hell of a lot. From the perspective of a hypothetical Kronos 3 I'm pretty sure that it could find a solid market if it were a genuine flagship workstation with all the trimmings, including touchstrip, poly aftertouch, faders, pads and so on plus lots of sonic engines and a really solid linear sequencer and arrangement feature. They could have done this, and still could do it - and just looking at the prices of plausible competitors in that arena, it would be a serious prospect at $3K. |
