do you put them on floppy and load them directly into the Triton?

Yes.

I play "computer" all day so when it's time for music, I just play my keyboards.

Sounds Good

Smile I know that feeling! For years I swore I'd never use computers to make music. Never, ever, ever! In 2000 I bought the Triton to replace my former workstation (a Yamaha SY55, used 1990-1999). My hope was to build the songs completely with the Triton, only using the PC to burn CDs.

However, the day I unpacked the Triton I saw that it didn't remember songs automatically, that you had to manually export to floppy or hard drive before turning off the Triton. That sucked! I was accustomed to the SY55, which remembers everything automatically. I was so bummed by the Triton's inconvenient saving mechanism that I decided to try MIDI-ing the Triton to my PC, and using Cakewalk to handle the sequencing. Once I got the hang of Cakewalk (now Sonar), and connected a second monitor, I never looked back. PC-based sequencing is so much easier and faster than using a workstation.

The bottom line is that I've created 5 times as many albums with Sonar from 2000-2007 as I did with my workstation from 1990-1999. Since my goal is to "create lots of music, at least some of it good", PC-based sequencing has been a godsend for me. I'm so glad I didn't stubbornly persist in using the Triton's sequencer!!!

On the other hand, I realize that the few test songs that I created in the early days with the Triton's sequencer have an organic/fluid feel which I don't often get with the PC. Part of that could be due to the fact that the Triton's sequencer forces you to listen to the music rather than watch it. However, sometimes I close my eyes when using Sonar and I end up in the same rambling, trance-like state, which is cool. I don't do that very often, though, because I'm not good at forcing myself to "smell the roses" like that; cut and paste is more efficient.

I think the other reason my Triton-sequenced songs have a nice "indulgent" feel is that I was getting a kick out of exploring all the new sounds and effects. I had a sense of wonder back then which I've slowly lost over the last few years with the Triton.

My hope is that a fresh set of sounds will perk up my ears and encourage me to indulge myself rather than always focus on efficiency. There's nothing wrong with efficiency, but I kinda miss the wonder.

Agreed. A little bit of memory would have been a step in the right direction, and wouldn't have added much to the cost of the Triton.

Never did that with my music.....at least not on a computer. I've done copy and paste with my old Ensoniq ESQ-1, but with the Triton, all my music is played into the sequencer or to a stand-alone digital recorder. Very fluid and organic.

I would encourage you to program your own sounds on the Triton. Do you have the MOSS board by the way? That's a great addition as well.

I'm definitely not a sound programmer! I prefer playing "realistic" sounding instruments, and trust other people to do a much better job than me. I have zero interesting in inventing my own sounds.

Do you have a link so i can check out your music?

Nothing online at the moment. I prefer playing live......it's more challenging.

I've got several completed instrumental songs but they aren't "mastered" yet.

I found a dump request macro for bank E:

F0 42 30 50 1C 14 00 00 F7

Unlike the one on TritonHaven, this one doesn't prompt you to enter a channel. Pretty cool!

It's slow, though; much slower than SEQ data.

I use the Vintage Analog Project PCG data that I got a few years ago from the downloads on this site... I think it's still available.

In fact our track Confusion has the main synth sound using one of the presets from that program data.
