There wasn't a discussion I could find on here so I thought it would be great to have a Best "Music" Movie thread. This could include musicals, or movies about music or bands etc, maybe even a documentary. It could also include movies that feature musicians primarily (heck, I would even take suggestions like Two Lane Blacktop since both major players were musicians). The idea is perhaps we could share a great movie that no one else has seen yet, but would be worth seeing!

So if you are so inclined...post away!

Well, my favorite musical movie, head and shoulders is Hedwig and the Angry Inch. I can watch it over and over and it's so unusual and organic and every song works and the costumes. It is my Rocky Horror, which I like also but not as much.

Well, I've got 3 fav music movies:
- the pianist
- the legend of the ocean
- "Canone inverso" (it's the italian title, don't know about the real english title).

Man this is a great list going...along with very good suggestions...some I have NOT seen!

I lean towards the camp a bit:

Phantom of the Paradise (crazy "rock opera" story with Paul Williams)
This is Spinal Tap
Across the Universe

Not in order but likely my top three. Cool

I am a big fan of Across the Universe, and I'm not surprised you like it too. But it's funny how divided people are on this one, either love it or hate it.

Ok...I can accept video game soundtracks. It is not a huge stretch considering the nature of the game...RPG.

I used to like the soundtrack to Ultima (7 specifically) till it made it into my dreams every night while I was playing the game. Laughing

Well, I think games' soundtracks worth a topic for theirself only, there are some great examples out there!
I love FinalFantasy and Warcraft, too.
There is the FinalFantasy Piano Collection which is a great piano-reduction of equally great orchestra scores.

The Mission - Enio Moricone.

Kinda surprised nobody mentioned that.

Well the subject DID get bent a little...it has not to do with the soundtrack in so much as the movie is about music (the business, the people, a band), stars musicians, or is even a musical.
