i´m daniel anselmi, from montevideo uruguay and one of the 3 electribe users here

i got EMX and ESX along other machines as nord micro modular, elektron monomachine and korg prophecy (and a bad english too)

happy to find you here, i´ll try to add my 2 cents to the electribe community

Hey , dan . Welcome to the forum . Pretty much anything and more about Electribes can be found out here , from myself and many others .

I'm quite experianced but still keep finding little tips that add to my list of skills . My insiration has increased hugely since finding the forum , and i hope yours will to .

i´m experienced too, kinda electro oldfart, but is really nice to have access from the experience of other people sharing your machines and using them in personal ways

Now i understand ruso . I get what ur saying . Unfortunatly , i have tried to get as deep into midi but using cubse makes it more of a chore to start digging the best out of my pc , and it simply takes too long i the sysex editor alone , nrpn's , lsb's n all the rest . Boring , and steals all my time .

I simply love digging the most i can any old way form my mx , i work hard all day inpotring/expoting frieght n by the time i get out of the industrial estate i'm buzzing with inspiration , and the mx always satisfies me on its own for my tastes , but ..... i'd like to get a new copy of ableton and make even more from my mx by operating its features the way i'd preffer everytime .

So , if i use ableton can i make my mx do a sine lfo easier ?
That'd be a start , and how tight can it hold a rythym if i need ?

It feel strange ( Crying or Very sad

almost heartbreaking , lol ) to hear of someone selling up those machines . I sold my old EA-1 cos i got bored n thought it was DONE ... but i really miss it now for what it offers at its best .

It does some bass's that r better than the mx . some really thick blob-like sounds . But then , it was only used for that i suppose . Still , i kinda regret selling to get my Emu soundcard ( its good , but i want the usb one ).

once u get ableton and learn it the need for electribe goes away... (that is if you really learn it.. I never worked on extending the electribes with ableton, I worked on exact opposite, extending ableton live with the electribes as midi controllers for their nice layout...

you could not extend the simple lfo without any extra plugins(until version 7 of ableton comes out at least)

well, i´m think is a question of feeling, personal feeling with the tools and the methods you use to get inspiration, satisfaction and production

i´m into software too but i´m boried of it...
for me there´s a universe inside each machine and i preffer to explore it instead of the "outside" infinite that software promises

million options?...ok, maybe in maths terms, but you don´t have enough time to explore millions, so thousands or millions is the same for me in effective possibilities...

a couple of machine like the tribes give me those thousand options and for me it´s the same as "infinite"

when you master one layer on those machines you´ll forced to get the next level so you have to develop some skills to get it happens...
that way you developes a unique path solving problems that would make you an unique artist...like in any classic instrument
in software the more easy and numerous solutions for a problems makes you being around in the surface...where the most people is

i´m not saying you are that kind of artist, ruso...i just read this post again and think it could sound rude...not my intention at all, so i´m editing it right now

i just want to say that the majority of guys i know with ableton live just use 1% of the software and if they couldn´t solve one problem they just add another softsynth or whatever...using just presets

i think that kind of behaviour is the key of today´s artistic crisis...more surface "all" and less deep in something specific

and the most important thing, ruso: you´re loosing loads of sex appeal onstage with that laptop, looking like a nerd downloading warez, porn and satriani tunes while posting in several gear forums and playing in lord of the rings kinda net gaming Laughing

chicks love running leds and machines they didn´t have on her desks!

also I totally agree with you on learning the electribes step by step and using it as an instrument.... but it's the exact same thing with ableton..... for me over time it has become an instrument... I've become more spontanious and fluent in what I 'm doing then in the electribes....

I can(and in fact do for one of my live acts)... use ableton as an improvisation central where the possibilities are endless and are fed by my current mood, setting and the crowd.... I can pick it up, and play this instrument and what I play is completely intuitive and structured from nothing.... I get into this same zone as I would playing a piano where the lightest turn of a knob provides me with expression like putting expression into how you play a piano...

I guess todays thing for us is to learn what you're doing to its full potential, when you feel like there's more, move on elsewhere.... but I'll guarantee you that when you come back, you're gonna be a ton better at what you were doing before........ the point is, no matter what tool, you're still learning music and the better you become at making music the better you will be at using your tools to make the music and vise versa...

One more thing, break your rules, the more you break em and go outside of the box(even if it's on a box like the electribes) the better it will sound Wink
