Yea I like the Unimon stuff myself.
Ok with the deadline...first song due end of February.
Hmm. I will be early. Good. That will keep me ahead of my own game, and lord knows I need that.
Double hmmm...if we had one more we could be the Dirty Dozen. As it is, we are just Nigel!

Hello Jon and all-
You said a lot here-
"Hmm. I will be early. Good. That will keep me ahead of my own game, and lord knows I need that."
The trick is to stick as much as possible to the deadline month by month. If you fall much behind it becomes a chore rather than an challenge;
that makes all the difference in the world in what you create.
I am please to see so many names I have come to know participating in this
round and encourage more to join. |

I'm amazed it really is the old gang basically. These boards are often a bit silent at times, I know I often go some time without checking in as it's really just some technical questions being asked or a new Korg user with a few basic questions. Suddenly we're back in here and the old excitement has picked up and magic is in the air. Now for the songs. I took off work this Monday so my song will be ready after this 3 day weekend. At least the first take. I'm not going to post until Feb start though just to make it officially my Feb attempt. _________________ George Nelson is 2loose

Hi, and just want to comment on a few things...
First, if my creativity continues as it is...I will be d-e-a-d-...It is an iceberg right now...worst I ever had...Hope others are doing better..I did almost finish my Feb song before I went dead, so maybe I will get by a month or two..
Played Synths all day yesterday..Kurtz, Yamaha, Roland..a few others and tried the Radias and M3..and they are SUPER....but not for me . I am not happy with any except maybe the so called ..TR... and I am gonna look again. Would it be helpful for me, anybody think??
Putting new sound card...and using the O1Wfd..which is STILL faultless, within it's own limitations!!!
Hope all are doin' better than me in creating...I did have some bad happenings which may be part of it but I just can't get going...!!
Keep up the good vibes!!!! John (ellll) |

Hi ellll,
hmm .... when this sort of thing happens to me - I sometimes find inspiration in listening to music - need to loosen up - take the pressure off - let the mind free.
So what music does that to you? It is different for everybody, and is different depending on you present mood.
Give it a try _________________ Care for a jelly baby?

Hi Art,
Yes, you are indeed correct on this idea of listening..I do a lot anyway, but I will go over the things that "destroy" me rhis evening and see...
By the way, others as well, speaking of the TR61 I played..I thought the piano was terrific...the first to match or pass my O1W I have played, which is probably the reason I kind of wanted it......so it is worth a look,,,Don't know anything really about it except it was $ (Now I can't remember the various prices..Im confused..)..but a guy on the Anvil forum sent me a PM that it was the Oasys piano...???? Anybody?
Thanks for the encouragement Dr Who...and I will TRY!!
My Regards, John (ellll) |

The TR6 is not the Oasys piano. The piano is very subjective as you know better than most. If you are happy with it great. Right now until (6-1-0 you can get an EXB-SMP (sampling option) for free with new TR purchase http://korg.com/gear/info.asp?a_prod_no=TR&category_id=1 .
And down the road you can get something like K Sounds piano samples. I can't get my samples to work this morn...I will keep trying. http://www.korgforums.com/mp3/_piano_sample.mp3 . I enjoy this piano immensely. This was a live recording (to show the sounds all over the keys). _________________ “I’m into scales right now.”

Hello Jaz..and thanx...,
I am going to look this over very well, as there other maybe even better reasons in free merc. at some locations...
I also have to stop and realize I was of course...playing in a different location, and I will try both my (tweaked) O1W grand and the TR grand in headphones...I was in a practice room so was listen. through a pair of those really expensive monitor speakers...(Cant rem. what but in stone cases..and several hundred each..) so the sound may have been diff. for that reason of course....as well as their exp amps down at that store...it is SO tot. subjective anyway...but I do believe it is one of the best pianos I have heard...
I see one today on ebay for 750/buy now, and another with bids up to 600+ so I am looking at that as well..
And..I am still trying to make up my mind about a sound card...before next week...so I hope to get something in place./..AND
In the end, it may not make any real diff. in what the forum hears, as I am poor at production anyway...All very difficult for me...
Thanks again for the help and support...I will do something on this soon!
My Regards..and to all as well..John (ellll) |

The 01/W piano sound is good for what it is. I liked the Trinity's even more. I hated the Triton's until they redid it with the Extreme.
In a live situation it really is not a big deal anyway you go. However for recording I have a hard time choosing any of these piano sounds if I am doing solo piano. I lean real heavy on huge soft sampled pianos. If it is a typical pop-type track, then it is easier to go with the hardware samples.
But there again that is where subjectivity kicks in. I like the Oasys piano, but not enough to own the Oasys. My current keyboard rig consist of a Triton Extreme, Yamaha MO6 (great acoustic sounds), and a Roland RS-70 (great for R&B stuff). And my favorite general piano sound comes from the Yamaha. I use the Extreme for my pop stuff.

Hey Jon,
Enjoyed your comments on your own usage very much..I confess to being too subjective in piano sound, in particular when I sit down at my small grand and play...then I say..."yes the O1W is close..(I have on mine, by the way..a VDF cutoff on the orig fact., load, (XSD-00P)..: A01 (16'), 10 and the slope at 94...just a tiny tad larger than stock, in looking for classical sound...the B01 (8'), even less...still at the standard of 9 for cut-off...and slope one up at 91...) But the O1W lacks something...oh well...I am sitting with the lids up, and strings lookin' at me with the grand...it has to be diff...!..BUT actually,:
That change is quite good for the O1W classical...I do know I have seen sim. figures for many other Korg units before...just slight change for classical piano consoles and grands... Proves how subjective it is!!..Always personal choice anyway...seems everybody "tweaks" their piano a bit...
I never play live anymore...even just a sub or sit-in...Don't really go out enough to hear good pianists.... so I don't worry about the sound much usually...Just me I gotta please...Until I get in this OSAM, and then I need to be more careful...
I am just so unwilling to buy something and be disapointed...that I keep things too long...Well we shall see...I still liked the piano on the TR and they are reasonable with great give-a-ways right now...
I LIKE your choice of gear!! and the Yamaha piano ...I would sure always agree on that..When I had High School Choral...I had a Rhodes and a Yamaha we carried for pop shows,..and I used both..as they were each good for their own reasons for some songs!!..
Enough!! I talk too much! My Regards!!! John (ellll) |

OK guys. Get ready. Feb is almost here and the games begin. I for one am finished with Feb and am waiting for the 1st to post. I have started on my march song, but march is going to be a big challenge because I've never done a song of this type before. So I hope Feb turns out ok and I won't have to do much after all your comments, as I want to be able to focus on my new tune. I try to stay about a month ahead so when the tough times come I can take a breather if I need to. _________________ George Nelson is 2loose

Hi!
You're so right, February will be a great challenge for me, I'm nearly done with the first arrangment, but the whole recording process will be a totally new experiment for me...
I'm going to record all choral parts by myself, and then use DP to process 'em all...it will be a DiegoVocalBand
Can't wait to ear the final result!!! _________________ Diego http://www.myspace.com/diegoinmusic
