I keep paper with me in my briefcase and when I'm working on my lyrics, so when I get stuck I turn on my mp3 player and listen to different kinds of rock music and as I hear other songs going I get an idea for my song and then I write it down. This happens on the train or anywhere I am. I don't copy the artists lines, but I will just get a word or two that suggests a subject matter or catchy phrase that will strengthen the chorus etc. It breaks me out of that narrow groove I find myself in at times when I run out of ideas. Also, since I tend to write funny words, when we joke around at work and I say something, sometimes that smart remark becomes part of my song.

lyrics and ideas - I should try your technique George. I also remember Alex saying he used to go to a cafe and just listen to conversations around him and take notes. I can't write lyrics to for nothing.

ellll - Dude, we love your music! I think u r ur biggest critic.

Yes - there is variety here - Cool

So the deadline is on the END of the month - correct?

Yeah!!
It's really a great way to go!

I find difficult to take inspirations from trash metal (which is what I have today in my iPod) if I'm arranging in vocal-jazzy style; but I think is great, when you listen to music you know quite well, to think in your head how you should have wrote that particular phrase.
So, while the music is going on, you think and sing with a few voice your personal idea...which quite often seems to be a good starting point for a completly new tune Cool

Diego, you sound like me...!

I used to run around with manuscript paper everywhere I went...now I.(me, who refuses almost all tech..), I keep a pocket recorder that uses a chip..and I just hum the tune I hear, or invent mentally...or turn it on when I hear something...that even goes with ambience, like traffic/rain/crowd noise..etc...

Now, I don't use many....but I DO have them and thats good, if it was a real --- kicker you might never hear again.., 'cause I just hear a bar....and it takes me back to it..GREAT..(and also there are sites online that will recog. a short burst of music, and identify it..not real well yet...but thats gonna get better in the future)..When it is some accidental thing on a recording/radio etc, and you just hit rec...and go back later..and commit it to paper if you wish...!!

Silenced
you should have never saied this to Diego! With this statement you feed his GAS!!! He stares drooling at a zoom H4 for such a long time... this is the end... now he'll buy it for sure!
regards, Lorenzo

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
Embarassed

Lorenzo knows me quite well, we talk a lot in the morning, writing tons of emails, and now we know each other what's on our "to buy" list...And he's soooo right!!! I'm dying over a Zoom H4 from some weeks, and I guess at the end of the month, when I'll receive my salary, I'll buy one.

Of course, I can't carry it with me to "take notes" of my ideas, but a small Acer mp3 recorder costs about 15 euros nowdays.
I find it really usefull, especially to record rehearsals with my choirs or with my band or to use as a backup recorder at live concerts when I use iBook + Traveler for recordings

Regards

In response to the question of when our songs are due. They are due by that last day of each month. So by the last day of February you should have posted your song at least the first time so I can check your name off the list. For me I try to stay ahead of the game and post early in the month to get feedback and do some re-writing/tweaking. But that's just me. As long as you post something before the months ends, then you met your deadline. That's how it works. Now for those who fall behind, not that we will have any this year, but you can catch up, but looking at the past years, it does not always go well for those who miss the initial deadline. And please make sure I get you checked off the list if you're late so I can at least show you did complete your song. Perhaps I can indicate on the checklist which songs were late, like the word late in brackets or something. As it's not fair to the rest who struggled to make it in on time.

So far it's Dee, George, Ellll, and Daz? Anyone else? Adding SEWA now and Lorenzo. 6 so far and counting.
Now Jonsolo is in. And I don't know how I missed Jazlover so that does make eight. DRwho is nine. Any more takers? I'd say we can take any others up until Feb ends. If anyone wants to jump in by then with a posted song they're officially in by my book.

Jaz: we'll have to figure out how to check your name off the list from month to month if you're going to do the 6 song thing every other month. Maybe I'll put N/A by your name for the off months or something like that.

Let's add Diego. That makes an even 10

Now for Unimon - That's eleven

Hey, Unimom, I'm shocked you've got 12 more songs in you, you must be the most prolific songwriter we got in here, except maybe for Rabbit, who also seems to post a lot of tunes. You've really given these Osams the run for their money. And I can't wait to hear your new stuff.
