Hello all,

They say "Promises are made to be kept". About 18 months ago, I asked fellow forumites here if they would ever be interested in a video comparing the Kronos SGX-2 pianos. All kinds of things forced me to postpone that, but finally here it is. Cool

https://vimeo.com/1000124131

If you want to skip the intro with the criteria used in the comparison, simply use the chronology links under the video to check what you want to watch/hear. Hope you enjoy the video as much as when I created it. Sounds Good

Wow! Awesome, amazing test - very useful comparison in all registers and in different forms of dynamics. Thank you very much.

Great comparison, man. Thanks for all the work I know that took. I only have the stock pianos, so it was interesting to hear the Imperial and Italian in comparison. I found the intro very helpful as I'm not a classical guy and have limited knowledge of real world grand pianos. It's nice to have a description of their distinct characteristics.

I've been living on the Steinway for a long time, but I'm starting to come around to different pianos for different songs. This really helps them strut their stuff in different contexts.

As an aside, I had it playing on one screen while working on another to do some blind listening. Expecting Beethoven and the likes, I had to pause at one point. "Wait, is that Tarkus?"

Thanks drama1, danielwolk and Chris, glad to read you enjoyed the video. I thought it would be better to have several short excerpts to compare, this way the listener's memory "remains fresh" to better find out sound differences between the pianos. I also did longer excerpts so to present given moods (sad, violent, mysterious and so on) to the listener so he/she can decide which piano sounds better in them.

As I had to keep the intro short to keep interest, it was quite difficult for me to describe those famous piano makers in just a few words. But it is pretty close to playing their real acoustic instruments.

Oh and at 20 minutes this video was too long for my youtube channel, but if anyone is curious to hear more prog stuff done on the Kronos, you can check this link. Cop

Awesome video - What in the world is your screen and how do I get one?

Thanks Gargamel, There is a short explanation in the video at 03:40. Laughing

It's just the stock LCD screen, but I modified my Kronos so it can be tilted at different angles. Rather complicated and risky to do, but no more neck/head/shoulder aches when you program stuff on the screen for hours. In case you want more details, here is the topic I wrote about it in 2020. Idea
