I am not Impressed with anything, only maybe Poetry.
But, I don't need home piano.
I am afraid that nobody cares, on Kronos forum, about anything which they show?
Nothing about the successor of Kronos, and I doubt that there will be one.
Anyway, see for yourself.

I never read lates news, and I didn't notice it.
It is not out of place to repeat some things several times.
Have a good time. |
Hi Pedja,
That's all fine, only reason I sent you the link is so you can read it and/or add to the discussion if you want. |

Kurzweil had more interesting products than Korg, at NAMM.
Kurzweil showed two new keyboards at NAMM 2024: the K2061 and K2088. They appear to be budget friendly relatives of the 2700. Kurzweil is smart enough to keep the 9 sliders/drawbars. If it has all the engines of the 2700 (V.A.S.T., 6 operator FM, VA, B3 emulation, etc) and it comes in at the right price point, then who cares if Korg ever adds drawbars to the Nautilus or comes up with a replacement for the Kronos? |

Apples and oranges. Kurzweil keyboards use Fatar - a company who excels at creating unreliable low quality actions. The Korg RH3 is a much stronger and reliable design. Also, their big K2700 machine has a "huge" 3,5 GB of user-samples, which is ridiculous nowadays. Their company used to be great, until about 20 years ago. So it's only normal their products should be less expensive. |

Hang on a second with a raw size comparison on samples - this is apples and oranges. KORG's approach to sampling is (mostly, there are some tweaks here) basically a straightforward development from old rompler techniques. If you're familiar with the behaviour of the engine you can draw a pretty straight line from the M1 through boards like the M3 up to the modern Nautilus. This is not the most space-efficient approach, but the results speak for themselves. By way of contrast, Kurzweil always took an approach which I would compare to Roland's old LA system. V.A.S.T. is rather like LA on steroids, and they get a hell of a lot more mileage per storage size, but at the cost of higher processing. Kurzweils sound amazing and have their own internal synthesis magic that is almost like having a deep, polyphonic modular synth on each voice. So a raw count of bits is not a useful metric. It's bits + algorithms + DSP.
As for Fatar/RH3, I don't really have an opinion other than to observe that a whole lot of serious professionals whom I've seen, or joined on stage seem to make it through their gigs despite the hideous, crippling handicap of Fatar. So there's that. |
