A couple years ago I made an editor for MOD7.
I'm thinking of making another editor, and seeing what users want.
This late in the game, I'm not sure the demand is high anymore.
See next post for details about the MOD7 editor.
So the question is, do you want an iPad editor for a Kronos synth?
Which synth first -- AL1? The Wavesequencer?
Since I have access to sysex, I could improve the Drum Track.
Right now, there is only one pattern per program.
With sysex, I could make buttons to select other patterns on the fly.
Or maybe you'd prefer if the FX and routing were more hands on?
I considered making a poll, but there were too many options to think about. |

I used the iOS app MidiDesigner.
Click here to see what it looks like.
The color theme was inspired by the original OpSix mockup, and the DX7.
MidiDesigner only has 6 pages max.
And MOD7 has over 300 parameters addressable by Sysex.
It was a challenge to balance functionality, aesthetics, and simplicity.
My goal was to make MOD7 more direct and hands on.
I designed the editor around the EXT mode of the Kronos Control Surface.
To double the number of knobs/sliders/buttons, I used Drum Track as a shift.
I even added controls for the Talking Modulator FX, to mimic FS1r formants.
The end result is a more "knob per function" MOD7.
Sure, you could touch the iPad and move sliders and knobs.
But it's designed more as a huge display, to show what knob does what.
You mainly twist Kronos knobs and move sliders to sculpt your MOD7 sound designs.
Then touch the iPad to change to another page with different functions. |

KingKronos, i think it's a great idea...sad that no one replied as yet. I can't think of anything specific. However I am interested in Midi Designer in general. _________________ Kronos 2-88 & X73, Kurzweil MicroPiano, Spitfire Albion V Tundra, BBCO Core, Nylon Guitar Ilya Efimov, Xtant Audio Uilleann Pipes - in use

Hi BlackForest, thanks for the interest.
I guess the target audience for this is very small.
I find the combination of Kronos and iPad very useful and fun.
But perhaps most Kronos owners prefer PC or Mac.
I will watch to see if there is enough interest for this long term.
MidiDesigner is very handy, if a little clunky visually.
There are already templates available for several synths.
Let me know if you have any questions I can help with.
It took awhile for the Sysex "learn" ability to click.
But once I figured it out, I progressed very quickly to finish.
By the way, that's beautiful country you live in.
I visited Baden-Wüttermberg for a few weeks years ago, twice.
I almost moved there, it was so idyllic. Great beer.

For a new program to adjust more parameters in real time (than what is available on the Kronos control surface), I would be interested but as a PC program. Because my eyes are 60 years old, I don't like to look at screens smaller than let's say a 17'' monitor. Certain Kronos menus are already tough enough for me to read.
For such tasks, I often use MIDI-OX as it can act as a translator to do useful or fun things. For example, change a parameter or program sound by pushing a given key or once it receives whatever SYSEX message, etc.
I created some years ago a specialized Excel sheet with underlying VB code to use with MIDI-OX. Instead of editing MIDI-OX files manually, you can then create and modify velocity maps to get a better response on a Kronos keyboard, by simply typing numbers and seeing velocity curve graphs instead or editing boring text files and not see what is happening visually.
But MIDI-OX has limits and it is not designed specifically for the Kronos. So for sure, again, I would be interested in a PC program that can control SYSEX stuff better than MIDI-OX for the Kronos. |

Midi Designer Pro 2 now runs natively on any M1/M2 Mac. It's still a small target audience, but growing. _________________ Synth DIY Projects |

Lol, thanks, yes the Black Forest is indeed nice. 20 minutes to France, 15 minutes to Switzerland,.. We have a great English speaking community here, not only due to Basel/Switzerland round the corner.

BlackForest, I live in Florida, too humid and hot, compared to Swabia.
If MidiDesigner 2 is already on Mac, that leaves out just Windows.
I gave a quick look at SynthEdit, but its sysex support looks iffy.
I suppose no interest for a Kronos editor is more than just a PC/Mac thing.
Most K owners probably don’t sound design much.
It’s a shame, K has some strong engines still not surpassed by VSTs or AUs. |
