Replaced the floppy belt as it had decayed and fell apart, now when I try and read a disk, the drive spins but the message "No Disk In Drive" shows on the screen.

Have tried the i4S disks in my i3 and they load fine..?

Did you get anywhere with this? I have same issue with an iX300.

Wow what a long time since I posted this!

In the end I bought a 24 pin (ribbon cable) to IDE data/power converter:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/304806695420

Its designed to work with the SY85, however is uses the SAME drive as the i4S, and allows a standard 3.5" floppy drive to be used straight from a PC as those ribbon powered floppies no longer exist.

Saved my bacon, works really well bit of a major faff taking this Japanese monster apart but nothing technical or risky!

Can't see any reason why the iX300 should not work with the adapter if its a ribbon cable only floppy drive Smile

Thanks I appreciate that. I’ll go have a look for an adapter. Looks like it would allow me to fit a floppy emulator too.
