Can the Scene buttons be assigned to the Nanopad???? I find using the screen to change Scenes cumbersome. It's not the board, it's my fat fingers. Thanks. |

There's nothing in the documentation that give any clues to the ability to externally control scenes. It might be worth using a MIDI monitor, like MIDI-OX, to test if the Nautilus sends any CC# type messages. Make sure that the sending of Control Change messages and SysEx by the Nautilus is enabled first. Reporting any findings here might be useful to others.

Thanks chelsea4023. Yeah, I've checked those videos out already. He does a great job. Hoping he does more on the Nautilus. Just my opinion, but I believe Korg went way to far in cutting realtime controls from the Nautilus. I currently have a Kronos that I use live. I use the vector joystick, ribbon, faders, aftertouch and ESPECIALLY the upper and lower scene buttons while performing live. I'm trying to come up with a way to use NanoKontrol on the Nautilus to get me close to what I currently do on the Kronos. I know, why not just get another Kronos. Well, I really don't want a used Kronos and new ones are getting harder to find. Also, I'd love a 73 semi-weighted board, which the Nautilus has. Thanks. |

Did a bit more searching. It's apparently not possible on the Kronos unless your controller can send SYSEX, so I'm guessing it's the same for Nautilus only maybe less so. Unless "only 6 drawbars using all of your RT Knobs" is acceptable, which is not.
To quote the Nautilus Operation Guide: "The drawbars are the heart of CX-3."
See http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=109613
The *good* news is that the Crumar controller is an arduino project, so you could definitely program sysex messages into it.
The SYSEX mapping direct for the CX-3 is hidden, but probably the best way to do the mapping is to map the sliders to the Tone Adjust sliders permanently, then you can use them for other patches as well. Of course, this also means that you'd have to manually make sure the tone adjust MIDI control is blocked from other synths when using a layered patch and I don't even know how to do that and it's always something isn't it? (I'm not sure whether "Other Control Change Messages" MIDI Filter includes SYSEX. Anybody??)
I get the idea that somebody in marketing thought we'd go to the Tone Adjust page and happily use the touchscreen sliders as a replacement for hardware sliders. ;D
Still reading, maybe I'll come up with something. I've been doing some Arduino hacking so this might actually turn into an order today. If I make it work I'll share. Promise.
Guess I'm going to keep lugging the Numa Organ around and resetting it when the notes hang, for now. :/ (The things I do for rock and roll.)
Q: does anybody have a SYSEX message map for the Nautilus? 1000 page Programming guide doesn't include a MIDI map. :P |
