I've had the PA3X 76 for about a week now and notice there isn't any aftertouch. I've tried several instruments but zero effects. Whats up with that?

Of coarse the Pa3X has aftertouch as stated in the specifications, see: http://www.korgpa.com/en/products/arrangers/pa3x/pa3x-specifications.html
Maybe you should adjust the setting so it's more responsive to your way of playing.
Press GLOBAL, 1st tab (Basic), upper-right: A.Touch Curve.
If all settings have the same result (no aftertouch) then something is wrong with your keyboard.

I know what the specifications say. I also know what I see before my very eyes. Thanks for the response. Chuck

I don't mean to appear to rude, but it is irratating when you pay $4K US for an instrument and it doesn't do what it is advertised to do. You end up spending most of your time trying to fix something that shouldn't need fixed. Yikes! Mad

But IT DOES out of the box

This is the third Korg Arranger I've had. And never have I had to adjust or do anything to get the aftertouch to work. On page 200 of the manual it briefly discusses the aftertouch curve. 1 is soft and 3 is hard. Mine is set at two and still there is no aftertouch. How about that? Sad

Chuck
After touch not only works in Pa3X but also is the most sophisticated ever existed in keyboard ,
with multiple parameters.
Therefore you have to investigate what's wrong with this particular Pa3X !

Restore factory defaults , load a familiar sound to you from Pa2X that contains activated after touch function and if still no after touch function appears then service is required ,with most possible reason internal unplugged connection Jack.

Yep, I did that, it appears there is a malfunction with the PA3 I have. You can get a little aftertouch but not near what the PA1 & 2 had. Thanks.

If Aftertertouch curve is medium 2 then check this sound
Factory/Accordine/ Jazz Harm.DNC
Check its after effect

Hi Chuck

please try this:
Go to Menü/Effect(Gobal-Side)
Go direct to an fx-Block.
On this side you can edit the AMS-parameters. (rigt side/buttom)
Her you can select AT for aftertouch as source.
Set the value very high.
The Mount-Parameter must be very cheap.
When you selected (before) a Distortion. you will here the AT-Effect
very good.
The AT is set in the voice-editor and the fx-paramneters, by using the
advenaced modulation sources (AMS).
Not each sound has the same AT-deep. (or is it called depth - in english ?)

Thanks to all the replies. Yes the preset is on Medium. I really have to whack the keys to get very little aftertouch. I plan to explore all your input until I find a setting that delivers good aftertouch. Again your input is really appreciated.

I had a similar problem with my Oasys, only the aftertouch was wrong the other way around. Aftertouch would be full-on with just a small amount of pressure on the keys what ever the software settings were. The problem was that the analog circuitry hadn't been calibrated properly inside the Oasys, just a preset/pot on the keyboard interface circuit board.

My Oasys was out of warranty so I had no worries about opening it up and adjusting the aftertouch sensitivity/gain myself, but on a PA3X you might have to have it done at a service centre to preotect your warranty.

Most Korg keyboard aftertouch bars have an interface board with gain/sensitivity so I can't see PA3X being any different.

Since a small amount of after touch is present and deviation is far from original
sound ,then Global calibration is out of meaning and Pa3x needs internal
hardware calibration and service is the best option if you 're not expert
in such an adjustment.
I don't really understand the AT deviation of every Pa3X that passed quality
control of Korg !!!
I have installed a hundred of SetUp collections in Pa3X and never found a
Pa3X with exactly the same aftertouch curve !!!

PS
An important issue I forgot to mention is that first you test AT behavior in sound
mode and then in STS layers .In case AT doesn't work only at STS that means ,
some parameters that control AT are set to -64 value !
This happens frequently when importing other PaSeries PCGs.
