Hi all. Looking to control my Kronos and Axe Fx III via my iPad running OnSong so that when I change songs in OnSong, it loads up the appropriate presets on my Axe and the appropriate songs in Setlist mode on my Kronos.

The problem is, if I connect via the USB-B port on the back of the keyboard using a camera connection kit on my iPad, I can't get the MIDI Thru port to work.

Am I missing a setting somewhere? This would have been perfect; just run a MIDI cable from my Kronos to my Axe and it's gravy.

Do I just need to get a cheap MIDI interface or something? I've read a few places that MIDI Thru on the Kronos doesn't work when the USB MIDI is active, which is a total shame if true, but it seems to be...

Any tips? I was thinking about getting a couple (or one) of those bluetooth MIDI things; two, if my iPad 5th gen can connect to both, then a 3rd bluetooth device like an Airturn pedal to change songs.

MIDI thru on the Kronos is just a passively buffered signal from the MIDI in port, so there is no route from a USB MIDI device to the MIDI thru port. In fact, USB MIDI data sent to the Kronos only passes to the Kronos' tone generator. It is not passed to the MIDI out port, intentionally, to prevent MIDI loops being formed. It will be necessary to use a USB to MIDI interface and use MIDI DIN cables between Kronos and computer/iPad to acheive your intended use case.

That Axe manual is thicc. Seems to me you can use your Axe FX midi out to the Kronos midi in?

That way when you connect the ipad to your Axe to change songs, the Axe will then send program changes to the Kronos.

I achieve the same thing on my Kronos by building into the Combi a message which changes the program setting on my second keyboard (which is a Korg TR).

When I select the music score on my iPad (I use ForScore), its connected to the Kronos USB and sends a midi signal which selects a Setlist slot. In my case this will always be a Combi or Song. In the Combi, I have set one of the timbres to send an message to the slave keyboard to change its program (this is through the Midi Out on the Kronos).
