Hi, does anyone have experience or comments regarding polyfony limitations when using a Kronos 2?

In my situation I use a lot of layers and splits on two keyboards at the same time often with a acoustic piano sound as the basic sound. Is it likely that I will run into polyfony issues if I set up a rig based on a single Kronos 2 as the source of all sounds? Is it likely that I will need a second source of sounds also (e.g another synth/synt module or VST) to manage? Rolling Eyes

That's not an easy question to answer. Yes it is possible to have issues depending on what you're trying to do. I have several combis that have six or more programs layered together and I've personally never had an issue with notes dropping out. Having said that, some people here have had problems. I don't think you'll have problems unless to really stack a huge amount of programs together.

When I run into polyphony problems I review the setup to see if there are any things I can trim out.

For example, a stereo sound that could be duplicated by turning off one of the oscillators (making mono) and adding a stereo chorus or pitch mod effect.

I use a string/pad pair all the time. I decided to resample them into one sample.

Set the Global menu for muting to Live which makes muted sounds not play and take up any notes.

BTW, the note stealing is very smart and even with, you hardly notice it.

I’m using that exact setup and have yet to run into any issues. Many of my Combi’s have 8 or more Programs combined with several split points - I think you will be amazed how much you can throw at it.

I run 99% in SEQ mode.

When I use MOD-7, AL-1, SGX pianos , as midi instruments at the same time, I experience polyphony issues, clicks and pops.

Google the forum for polyphony issues and the workarounds.

Great information guys! Since I'm in a situation where I need to completely re-new my whole keyboard rig, this is good input. I'm leaning more and more into a new set up based on a Kronos as the basic source for both sound and control. Very Happy
