I'm building a combi for my cover band of The Bee Gees "You Should Be Dancing", but having trouble finding a sound to emulate the drop siren type effect that comes in just prior to the chorus....most notably at the 1:10 mark

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_JoZS6LgqYI

I would love to simply build a sound, apply it to the lowest key and have it trigger the drop. I'm not very good with programming oscillators but feel this could be a good learning experience for me. Any ideas to get me started? I know the Kronos can do this.

Hi there,

The synth timbre reminds be vaguely of Lucky Man, so instead of starting from scratch do a search on your Kronos and choose that preset. Save a copy of it elsewhere and rename it as you wish for the Bee Gees song.

Under OSC Basic, change the waveform of OSC1 to Saw/Pulse to get a timbre closer to what you want. Then under Pitch EG/Mod, for both OSCs, increase Intensity to 3,00 (the ones directly under EG select). Once the EG will be set, this will create a pitch drop of a minor third (3 ST). I didn't listen carefully so maybe it's more than that. Adjust higher if needed. Also, uncheck Portamento Enable under Pitch Common.

Now choose the EG tab and EG2(Pitch). Change the following values to create the siren pitch drop : Break Level +99, Systain Level 0, Time Slope (under Break) +56. Adjust this last parameter as will for a slower/faster pitch drop. Press high C7 on the keyboard. Transpose it elsewhere if you need. That will be 20 $. Wink Enjoy and modify at will. Cool

Thanks KK. I'm going to attempt this today. I appreciate the detailed instructions very much. $20 seems fair. LOL
