I used to buy Apple. I still have my old one on a shelf behind me. It still works. (G4, to give you an idea of how long ago that purchase was.)
Apple made a few decisions that finally soured me on them. The T2 nonsense getting the nod from what passes for quality control these days is merely the latest in a long line of indignities. The real icing on the cake was when iTunes was automatically deleting a lot of music files. Thank heavens for backups, but as far as I'm concerned, Apple owes me consulting rates for all the time spent recovering data. Even if we consider that a lost cause, the primary role of any computer is to save the golden bits. If you don't protect the data on which we work, why the hell are you even there?
My contention is that Apple stopped giving a damn about their premium market - creatives - roughly around the time of the release of the iPhone, if not earlier. Sure, they make nice noises about it, update Logic and so on, but where the rubber meets the road they've shown frankly cavalier disregard for the need to reliably create high quality media under pressure.
It'll take another ten years of exemplary behaviour on their part before I'm willing to trust them with anything that I value again.
But, having said that, I don't object to anyone else finding happiness with them, or admiring the expensive metal that they sell. I'm sure that it's fast (when it works) and pretty (even when it doesn't). |

I’ve had Mac and PC I certainly think the new mac pro’s and imac pro’s are very overpriced. Certainly when they had the dustbin mac pro’s and the new imac pro’s it’s style over performance because of the crap thermal apple used on them the CPUs were hitting almost 100 percent on the temperature side of things and throttled like crazy.
i can easily record, mix and master 50 to 60 odd tracks as an average on. t 2015 imac I7 and 32gb ram. I also can work with the same sessions on a 2012 mac mini with 16gb this is with Logic. i’ve noticed though a few problems with logic with the last few updates and the last MacOS update causing and introducing issues.
With Mac though it just works, with Windows there is a lot of configuring to do but i believe for the money you can get a better specced computer and tweak to better than you can on MacOS. I stay with Mac personally because i just love the workflow of Logic. I do use Cubase on occasions but i’m sticking with Logic as a DAW certainly while i finish the next album. I do keep looking at Ableton so maybe if i move to a cross platform DAW i’d go back to a Windows PC because i believe i would get more for the money. |

I find Logic Pro souped up with each update since 10.3.3 version.
I have Mac Pro 12-Core 3.46GHz Mid 2010 ( Logix Pro X 10.4.8, 10.14.6 Mojave ). No problems at all.
Apple seems to pursuit multicore performance ( https://logicbenchmarks.com/benchmark-results/ ). With a release of the latest Mac Pro, this process has been step up. So Macs with 2 or 4 core might not benefit much or even cause some issues. Because we have now a new Mac pro released, before doing any Logic updates, make a backup to be able to reverse. The next update might be not for you, despite being supported. And get rid of lousy AUs even if they come from "big players" |
