How does the weight/action of the 88 LS (light touch) action compare to the synth action of the 61 key ? Is it somewhere in between the RH3 and synth action? _________________ Current gear: Kurzweil Forte 7, Kurzweil PC361, Mojo 61, Korg Kronos X 61, Roland RD-88, Korg Nautilus 73 |

It's quite different! 61 has stronger spring and slower return of a key. It bounces a bit when you release quickly. LS has lighter touch, it's very easy to reach full velocity, you don't have to hammer it down. And you shouldn't because keys don't seem sturdy. It's not classical semi-weighted. It's more like light-semi-weighted. Lower velocities have to be played by gently touching the keys, like seaboard. That technique can sometimes trigger higher velocities when your finger gets too heavy by accident, if you'r not careful enough.
61 has aftertouch, LS doesn't.
If you don't need one board in 88 keys, go with 61 and expand when you want to 88 controller which can satisfy whatever flavor of action you prefer. _________________ Ride on |

Agreed! This is exactly what I’ve done. I have a K2 61 that is great for all those upper tier synth and organ bits. And I have either my RD2000 or PX5S for piano driven from the K2. Both the RD and PX5s have better piano keybeds than the RH3 used on the 88 and they’re lighter and less bulky than the K2 88. So all in all a good solution. |
