I have a technical comment: I think the "mastering compressor" is too HEAVY...The overall sound is too compressed |
I'll have to give it another listen to then.
Thanks! Always up for some helpful advice. _________________ If music is the food of love, play on and play loud!

Hi Greg,
Good piece, right !
As you asked for, I find the mix quality is good. But the overall volume seems to be quite low if I just compare with other songs like "Never forget the 70's".
And another little point about the snare drum tone. I don't really know how to say what I feel, perhaps a bit too light sometimes inside the mix ? Perhaps just a little bit more punchy in high medium range ? I'm afraid not to be very precise, sorry !!
But, really a good work, Greg. |

very good comments, thanks.
Since I have 10 songs of ' smooth jazz ', setting up a PlayList on my SC.
Morning Sun is song #1 in the PlayList, thus my idea is to start mellow, laid back. This is how I think of Dynamics.
The Intro of Morning Sun is soft- a metaphor of the first rays on the horizon of the morning sun.
Probably wouldn't hurt to punch up the over all volume some and add more mid gain on the snare.
Almost every song I hear these days has very loud snare. So I was rebelling from that recording tendency. _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8

Oh, yes Greg, I see what you mean.
Actually, I didn't want to speak of snare volume and the word "punchy" didn't suit at all. (I knew that I would have some difficulties to explain). |

Very good piece Greg on two sides : musical one and, above all, about your message.
Here in France we were, and still are, so sad for american people.
Sincerly, I hope you will get soon a great President.
An the musical point of view, I really like this song, Greg. It conveys a mix of sadness and hope and strength. And something says "We are not asleep".
Thank you very much. |
