Hello,
Looking deeply at the effects parameters, I noticed that some of them look redundant and so useless.
Juste one example : compare effects 077 and 078. One is a delay and the other one a long delay. The first one can reach 2730 ms Max and the second one, 5740 ms Max, so exactly two times of the first.
The both get exactly the same settings.
So, the long delay 078 can do exactly the same thing as the 077, of course.
I didn't hear any quality différence between the both.
So my conclusion is that the first delay 077 is useless !
And its only one example. There are some others.
What is your opinion ? |

Same for me. I never understood why there are different delay effects with timings in BPM and ms instead of having a switch that toggles between these two modes. |

this topic sounds familiar
I am always fiddling and adjusting [ downwards or less] these delay FX.
Possibly the diff between 77 and 78 is length time of the echo or delay.
one Fx has more 'ping pong ' going on. If my recollection is correct, the reason to have both is convenience. _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8

The fact is: the long delay has a decreased frequency response, in order to allow it to be twice as long as the other one and still occupy only 1 slot. Whether you can "hear it" or not, that is the fact.
So, when you need a delay less than 2730 ms, you use the first one, with a higher frequency response. When you need a longer one, you use the second one, with a lower frequency response. If you can't "hear" the difference - great! But there is a difference, that's why Korg does it. _________________ Stephen Kay - KARMA Developer • Karma-Lab - karma-lab.com

Ok Stephen, thanks for your answer.
Indeed, I did some tests with a 2730 ms delay, with each one. I didn't notice any audible difference between the both.
When I will get enough time, I will try it with a spectrum analyser, and will try to identify where is the difference. |

Yes Greg, but my question was : "Is there a reason for not using the Long Delay (078) for delay time shorter than 2730 ms" ? |
