Here's another: Yellow Brick Road.

Here's a couple of interesting links I bookmarked a long time ago. Do you remember Sherwin Spector and Sparkle? Sparkle was a really hot act in the clubs around that time:

https://sites.google.com/site/systemtree//shaw-spector-group

He ended up getting killed in a gangland-stlye execution:

Sherwin's brother Davey Spector was the drummer in our band for awhile (Karnival).

The summer before my freshman year I was working a gate at the IL state fair. A truck rolled through with "Amboy Dukes" plastered on the side!

Edit: Oh, and speaking of Park Ridge, wasn't there a club named "Papa John's" or something like that? I saw Ted Nugent there. As a matter of fact, Ted Nugent and I went to the same high school in Arlington Heights, IL - St. Viator's (catholic boy's school). He was ahead of me. We booked him for a live concert there when I was in my Junior year, and put ourselves as the opening act. He came out in his loincloth and shot arrows into his speaker cabinets. The priests were not pleased. Wink I still remember him doing "Papa's Will" and screaming like a madman. What a song. Incidentally, he actually liked what I was doing in the opening act and spoke to me briefly about becoming his keyboard player. Didn't happen - I was 17. Ha hah. Missed opportunities.

haha, priests, funny. I went to Holy Cross HS in River Grove. Jesuits.

Papa Johns, thats a good one. My band hung out there , we begged for an audition. The owner/manager said since we drank so much beer, he agreed to let us have a Monday night audition. My lead guitarist has a home in Park Ridge, he has an uncanny memory.

Good Nugent story !

do you keep in contact with old band members from the 70's ?

I got nostalgic last year, and tried to reach several of the guys. it was interesting to talk to them after 40 years

See my edit up above, just added some more info you might be interested in.

Sadly, most of the guys in my bands from those days have passed on. I stayed in touch with a few but gone now.

Sorta same here. Lost 2 band members to drugs. They split to LA in late 70's and spiraled into the scene.

Here's a strange one, bass player and drummer from 1 of my cover band were a strong rhythm unit. I finally tracked them down only to find out they went Jehovah. No music , won't even talk about it. Their gear sits in a basement, collecting dust. The religion doesn't allow it. Unbelievable.

Out of 12 band member contacts from the 70's. , only my lead guitarist is still making noise.
And I am trying to make up for 40 years lost time Wink

wow, what a story. Thanks for link and trip to memory lane. I followed Sparkle and all the local bands in the article. Incredible story about Spector, I wasn't aware.
Now I see the local/Chicago connection with Tommy Shaw. Good to see this history.

Here are 2 more local , psychedelic [ ?] bands I followed, Aorta and Fusion. They released albums in the late 60's.
Did originals. I don't recall their history into the 70's.
