Over the past couple of years I've taken a K2-88 that was significantly damaged in shipping, and created a keyboardless module. This is primarily to reduce weight. It also lets me bring the only the module when I'm rehearsing at a place where there is a non-Kronos MIDI keyboard available. I'm still looking for the ideal lightweight 76 key MIDI controller to pair and use this as my main rig.

The repair and modification process required a full teardown and re-assembly of the K2. I captured lots of high resolution video and photos so I could be sure I could re-assemble properly without adequate documentation being available.
I didn't start off with the idea of sharing the photos and video, but I think others might benefit, so I gathered the material together. It's not professional, and not complete, but I hope it is helpful to others who are working on their Kronos for whatever reason.

The final result (so far):

Note: joystick/switch panel is not completed yet.

Web Page with more photos and videos.

Nice one..

This would fit espescially well behind a Nord stage 3 compact
Which has a great all around keybed

I will be following this.,
Might even be possible to use the HS3 keybed under the nord
Or just another great 76 key, to make it feel like an organ

Wow, courageous project, what is the total weight now?

One hint: you should keep an eye on the core temperature since the air volume for heat distribution is lower.

Nice! Too bad it wasn't a 61, it would be even smaller.

Thanks for posting! I was hoping that would be possible as I need to keep an eye out for a damaged Kronos to break down into a flyable module size for travel gigs. Relying on rental gear is too nerve-racking! Between compatibility issues and the time spent testing it out, figured it would be best to just bring my Kronos with me.

My layout will be different and most likely require some custom rackbox design, but it should be doable. I'll post the project if I manage to find a suitably broken Kronos to experiment on

will the airline over head handle 34-36" of length ?

And airlines vary what can be placed there.

As Stephen mentions, it might be worthwhile to look for a K61, as it may have a more compact design. I've never seen the internals of the K61, so I can't comment. I'd be interested to know how many K61s have been sold vs K73 and K88. It seems like there are more of the larger number of keys.

Without going into detail, I can tell you that more 61's have been sold, followed by 88's in second place, with 76's in last place. But this is almost always the case with keyboards offered in three sizes.

61 is the winner before 2014, 88 after...
