This is why (see below). What began last night as a revisit of the SGX-2 engine after not touching the kronos for more than 6 months, resulted in a 7 minutes solid base for a new song (and a title for it as well).

Hi Greg,
Many good things were happening in your track. I like what you do with texture, dynamics and all that. I keep wanting to hear some electric guitar phrases in certain places. Nothing too aggressive....I don't know, it could be that I was listening to some Guitar smooth jazz earlier.
This track had that mystical quality which kind of goes with the title.
Few things that I would've done differently:
1) That first transition to Piano is too abrupt. It almost feels like it's the end of the song. The second time around, you bring the piano back but the transition is smooth and convincing.
2) I would've kept this particular track under 4 minutes
3) Some timing issues here and there, especially with the woodwinds |
Hi Sam, I like your constructive critique. My material is experimental. I take
chances even with my somewhat average skill.
This song length of 6 minutes is a bit much. Most of my stuff is under 5 mins.
I know the attention span of many listeners is around 1 minute. If they don't
like what they hear in the 1st minute , the song is gone.
If they get bored after 3 minutes, the song is history.
I could cut a verse from Garage Sale. But then the long 2 minute ending might
not work in balance. In hindsight, I could chop a verse and another 1 minute off the ending.
I have 3 friends, musicians , good ear people who vet every song I create.
They pick up on most problems, make suggestions on length and I make corrections. You are welcome to join my ' jury' for future songs.
For example, if you hear a timing problem, point to the time
stamp to narrow down where it is.
About the woodwinds, I think you are referring to the flute and clarinet taking
a melody in a verse. I made a conscious choice to not play ' in the pocket'.
I wanted both instruments to float or drift. I also don't want a flute part
to sound like a piano player playing a piano part.
Feel free to PM me. Thank you for your time ! _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8

Who Can We Trust ?
https://soundcloud.com/user-898236994/who-can-we-trust
This is a hypnotic and moody instrumental metaphor raising
the issue of trust.
Trust sounds easy. We trust the other drivers on the road to stop
when their light turns red.
We trust that the expert whose work
we read is giving us truth about the world as it is.
Is trust that easy ? And who do we trust ?
