New Free Sampled Piano for the Pa3x - (116mb)

Post by Reuben »

I have a new sampled piano that is loadable to the Pa3x at 116mb compressed (equivalent to 232mb). This piano in compressed format is compatible with the Pa3x/4x/700/1000.
To me the weak point of the 3x has always been the piano sounds which are quite muddy in the mid and low range areas. All the other sounds are excellent. This inspired me to find a good sampled piano loadable to the Pa3x and I found this in the free creative commons piano called the Salamander Grand made by Alexander Holm. All I had to do was to reduce this over 1gb 16 velocity layer piano to a version compatible with the Korg. I have ended up with a 6-velocity layer piano that also uses the resonance, pedal and key-off effects of the Korg, plus some additional sympathetic resonance effects.
There are 24 sounds in this set (15 versions of this piano using the new C5 Grand samples with various brightness levels and other effects, plus 9 new EPs that use factory sounds) that will load to the first 24 slots of User 2 Sounds.
You can download the latest version which has improved large grands (version 6 updated April 2025) from here:(Full 116 mb version)

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1PRcB7O ... sp=sharing
Sounds will load to the first 3 pages of User 2 (first 24 slots).

How to Install:
(First backup your current set by performing a Save, All, tick everything.
You might also want to do a Full Resource Backup.)
Download the file. Unzip the downloaded file to reveal the folder that is in Korg .set format (Yamaha-C5-v6.Set). Copy this folder to a USB flash drive. Insert the USB flash drive into your Pa3x and press the Media button.
Change the bottom left menu to USB drive and make sure the Load tab at the bottom is selected. Navigate to the Yamaha-C5-v6 folder and select Load. This will put the 24 sounds on the first 3 pages of User 2 sounds.
(If you want them in a different position when you load my set rather than just using Load, Yes, do this instead:
Load, Open, Sounds, Open, User 2, Open, Select First Sound and Load you will be given a choice where to put it (say User 3 or User 1 Page 4 for instance). The first one will take a minute to load because PCM samples will also load, the rest will be very quick but you can still choose where to put them.)

This piano emulates the sound of the famous Steinway used by Elton John on some of his legendary albums.

I hope you enjoy these pianos.

Ritchie - Pa sets are generally forward compatible but not backward compatible - so I don't think its possible. The Piano is loadable to Pa4x/3x and Pa1000/700 directly. These are all capable of using compressed samples as well, whereas the Pa2x is not. Someone with some time on their hands and with access to both a 3x and 2x could export and decompress the samples from the 3x and reconstruct the pianos for the 2x. Or you could contact an expert (Antony Sharmman?) to do it for you.

Just advising Version 2.4 now out. I have replaced the underused Detuned Piano with a new piano called Honky Chateau. This is the nickname of the famous recording studio with that amazing bright sounding Steinway used in the production of some legendary albums such as Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.
The piano draws on the same samples but with a bit of oscillator trickery we have ended up with a piano that gets close to emulating this sound.
The links above have been updated.

When I load the set into the pa3x can I choose the location of the load. I have sounds in my user banks and would rather not overwrite the sounds I have on these banks?

thanks

First 8 slots of user 1 bank. Just read the original post. Think that answers my question. Thanks

I loaded the set. User1 bank which used to have 16 x 8 sounds are now gone. Is there a way to keep my current sounds in user 1 bank and only load the 8 piano sounds from the new set.

thanks

Yes you can. Restore your old set up from a backup.
Now when you load my set rather than just using Load, Yes, do this instead:
Load, Open, Sounds, Open, User 1, Open, Select First Sound and Load you will be given a choice where to put it (say User 2 for instance). The first one will take a minute to load because PCM samples will also load, the rest will be very quick but you can still choose where to put them.

Hi. Thanks for the response. When i tried i got a message stating insufficient memory. Was thinking about upgrading ram or compressing ram data. Thoughts?

You must have some other User Sounds already loaded. Standard issue 128mb factory Ram can support this set which is already compressed at 116mb equivalent to 232mb. If you are not using other User Sounds then after backing up you can clear the User Sound Ram by going into Sound Mode, Record button, Dropdown Menu, Delete, select All Samples, Multisamples, Drum Samples. Dropdown menu, Exit from Record.
Of course if you were to install additional Ram you would have 256mb (or 512mb compressed) available which probably means you can have your old samples plus the new set.

It seems some of us are not used to loading new sounds so I have now included instructions in the first post. I hope this helps. Just remember to backup first then all will be well.
